about

The definitive story of Amazon.com, one of the most successful companies in the world, and of its driven, brilliant founder, Jeff Bezos.

Amazon.com started off delivering books through the mail. But its visionary founder, Jeff Bezos, wasn't content with being a bookseller. He wanted Amazon to become the everything store, offering limitless selection and seductive convenience at disruptively low prices. To do so, he developed a corporate culture of relentless ambition and secrecy that's never been cracked. Until now. Brad Stone enjoyed unprecedented access to current and former Amazon employees and Bezos family members, giving readers the first in-depth, fly-on-the-wall account of life at Amazon. Compared to tech's other elite innovators--Jobs, Gates, Zuckerberg--Bezos is a private man. But he stands out for his restless pursuit of new markets, leading Amazon into risky new ventures like the Kindle and cloud computing, and transforming retail in the same way Henry Ford revolutionized manufacturing.

THE EVERYTHING STORE will be the revealing, definitive biography of the company that placed one of the first and largest bets on the Internet and forever changed the way we shop and read.

Brad Stone has covered Amazon and technology in Silicon Valley for over 14 years, for publications such asNewsweekand theNew York Times. He is currently a senior writer forBloomberg Businessweekand lives in San Francisco, California.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book of a boy raised by an Armenian mother!!! I really enjoyed readint his book and getting the insight that you also get seeing Jobs. That he's a mile a minute, very impulsive, very creative and out of the box thinker. And someone who really pushes forward and over the boundaries. very insightful. I also enjoyed the shout out to his Armenian adoptive mother. Really cool that he acknowledged it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Book I actually got through this book via audio. There were so many things I learned about Steve Jobs that I would never have just from the media bits that most people hear of.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I hadn't realized how erratic, and even cruel, Steve Jobs was. Many of us have reaped the benefits of his creativity and drive in our daily lives. Despite his foibles, he will be missed. In terms of the structure of the book, I thought the author did well to simply report and get out of the way. His editorial comments seemed appropriate and helpful for the most part.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Interesting look into Jobs's rise, fall and rise. Well written and lots of insight but not a book I could really recommend except to fan of Jobs or some that likes biographies.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't waste your time I read the 3/4 of this book and i would'nt recommend it. It is well written but it always comes down to hard work, hard work again, and a very childish and infuriated Steve Job's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Steve Jobs An insightful bio of what made Steve Jobs tick. How his early life shaped him into one of the most innovative entrepreneur of this century

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Book! This is a very interesting and insightful book, but a bit long. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who works in or owns a company that relies on product innovation. This book will give you a new perspective on your people, process, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bezos is a Beast This book is a no holds barred look at just how incredibly driven Jeff Bezos is. He takes an aggressive head first approach to Amazon and if you can't keep up you are jettisoned by the way side. His work ethic is unmatched. This book details the explosive growth of one of the world's most interesting and growing companies... Maybe even the first to be valued at 1 trillion dollars?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good Bio I bought this book about 6 months ago and it was quite interesting! Read this on the plane to Paris :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best bios One of the best bios I have read in a long time. Great insights into what made Apple great -- both the good and the bad of getting there. The fact that it shows Jobs with both his flaws and genius takes this story to the NExT level. #plumreview

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not my thing #plumreview Take this review with a grain of salt because I'm by no means a member of the cult of Steve Jobs, so from a somewhat biased point-of-view, I didn't really find much to be fascinated by in the biography. To be fair, it does seem well researched and competently written.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great informative look at the life of a visionary Whether you're on Team Apple or Team Microsoft, I think anyone can appreciate Steve Jobs' contributions to personal computing. This book is a highly in-depth look at his life from his youth until around 2010. If you're interested in computers or just want a really great biography to read, this comes at my highest recommendation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Relentless Drive and Passion This is an intriguing and informative read, not just about Amazon's inception and growth into the juggernaut that it is today, but of Bezos himself. There are many elements in the man's life that seem to parallel Steve Jobs - mostly, the drive to succeed and the relentlessness and passion for seeing a dream become a reality. This book provides both a humanity and an in-humanity to Amazon at the same time, but ultimately illustrates the rise of a company that has been at the forefront of pioneering changes to the publishing and book industry. Brad Stone does an excellent job of providing incredible insights and backgrounds and walks a fine balance between being praising and being critical. An impressive read and one I would highly recommend to anybody working within retail or the publishing industry.
