The thrilling first book in a trilogy filled with danger, deceit, and hidden identities will keep readers clinging to the edge of their seats.

In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Four orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point - he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.

As Sage moves from a rundown orphanage to Conner's sumptuous palace, layer upon layer of treachery and deceit unfold, until finally, a truth is revealed that, in the end, may very well prove more dangerous than all of the lies taken together.

An extraordinary adventure filled with danger and action, lies and deadly truths that will have readers clinging to the edge of their seats.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In love again!! It was my sister's book when I first read it and after I finished her copy, I had to buy one for myself. I love the characters it is defiantly something I will re-read again and again for pleasure. And what's not to love about a trilogy? (Expect that if it's too good, then there's less books for you to read which is depressing.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Book Wow. Jennifer Nielson's creative writing skills really shine through this work. I very much enjoyed the storyline and plot. The characters are detailed and filled with their own amazing personalities that Nielson captures perfectly. I can't wait to read the next books of the series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly amazing I have to admit when I first started this book I was like, here we go another book about the overdone idea of kingdoms with kigns and queens and pirates but I have to say I was really impressed with this book. The dialogue first off was amazing and it is really hard to find a book with good dialogue. Secondly the main character is amusing, witty, smart, and just about everything else you could want in a narrator. I could help but be astonished at the things he pulled. A great read, I'm excited to read the next two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Revival of Good Literature Jennifer Nielson is amazing. The False Prince has the greatest opening lines I've ever read and they kept me riveted until the end and forced me to go buy the next two in the series without a second thought. She masterfully crafts daring, mystery, humor, and danger into one thrilling novel. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone, but especially to pre-teens and teens. I have yet to read a work of literature written by a female author as good as The False Prince.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good Middle Grade This should appeal to younger readers. It has danger, intrigue, action, and mystery, everything a younger reader should love. For those on the older side of the scale (think 16+) it's a little too simple and extremely predictable. I wouldn't recommend this for adults.
