Featuring Sutton Mercer before her tragic death, this stand-alone digital original novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sara Shepard is an exciting, must-read companion to the Lying Game series.

Back when she was alive, Sutton kept a million secrets. But how she got together with Thayer is her juiciest one of all. . . .

It's the summer before junior year and Sutton Mercer and her friends rule Hollier High. Then Thayer Vega returns home from soccer camp. In two short months he's gone from being her best friend's scrawny younger brother to a hot soccer god with a major ego—and a bone to pick with the Lying Game girls.

To bring him back down to earth, Sutton's friends convince her to string Thayer along so she can publicly reject him. But as she gets to know the real Thayer, Sutton starts to wonder: Is flirting with Thayer still just a game to her? Or is the queen of the Lying Game lying . . . to herself?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sutton and Thayer's story In this novella, Sara Shepard tells the story of the summer before when Sutton is chasing after Thayer - all in the name of a prank for The Lying Game. What starts out as a prank ends up with Sutton feeling true feelings for Thayer, even though she convinces her friends it's just a prank. I've only read the first two books in the Lying Game series. I've read a little about Sutton and Thayer's history and I was interested in finding out what happened to them. Their story unfolds in The First Lie. I like that we saw a softer side to Sutton as she starts to fall for Thayer, and not just as part of a prank. She even admits to herself that she thinks the Lying Game goes too far. We really see the darker side of Sutton in the first two books in The Lying Game and it's great to have a story from Sutton's perspective with her emotions. I'm hooked on this series and I can't wait to dig into book 3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Behind the Scenes Story Great to read especially if you've read the 1st three books as it gives the missing background on both the lying game and the relationship between Sutton & Thayer.
