The Forest Feast: Simple Vegetarian Recipes From My Cabin In The Woods is rated 3 out of 5 by 2.
Erin Gleeson made her dream a reality when she left New York City and moved into a tiny cabin in a California forest in order to be closer to nature. The natural beauty of her surroundings and the abundance of local produce serve as the inspiration for The Forest Feast, based on her popular blog. Most of the book’s 100 wholly vegetarian recipes call for only three or four ingredients and require very few steps, resulting in dishes that are fresh, wholesome, delicious, and stunning. Among the delightful recipes are eggplant tacos with brie and cilantro, rosemary shortbread, and blackberry negroni. Vibrant photographs, complemented by Erin’s own fanciful watercolor illustrations and hand lettering, showcase the rustic simplicity of the dishes. Part cookbook, part art book, The Forest Feast will be as comfortable in the kitchen as on the coffee table.

Reviews

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overhyped This book has beautiful pictures, there is no doubt about it. It is a great compilation of photos, but to be quite honest the recipes were more like a list of items that you can just mix together, as opposed to complex recipes. These recipes were not really unique by any means, but felt like an excuse to add pretty colorful foods to boring recipe. Don't get me wrong, there is definitely an art to a simple recipe with few ingredients, but there were several recipes in the book where it was 4 ingredients and was just a bunch of fruit and cheese on a store-bought pastry dough. Given the fact that the book is so expensive, it feels like all you're really paying for is some hipster/Instagram-esque photos of elementary recipes. Having gone through the book, to me, it really just came off as the author being holier than thou about living in California and having the luxury of having fresh fruits and vegetables readily available to her. This one is definitely one for a browse, especially if you live somewhere where you don't have the luxury of fresh fruits and vegetables in your garden all year round. Wouldn't recommend this if you're looking for a cookbook that you always go back to/one that you can genuinely learn from.
