about

The #1 New York Times Bestseller, USA Today Book of the Year, soon to be a major motion picture starring Emily Blunt.

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives.

“Nothing is more addicting than The Girl on the Train.”—Vanity Fair

The Girl on the Train has more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl. . . . [It] is liable to draw a large, bedazzled readership.”—The New York Times

“Marries movie noir with novelistic trickery. . . hang on tight. You'll be surprised by what horrors lurk around the bend.”—USA Today

“Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe

Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People

EVERY DAY THE SAME
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She's even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life--as she sees it--is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

UNTIL TODAY
And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Paula Hawkins worked as a journalist for fifteen years before turning her hand to fiction. She lives in London. The Girl on the Train is her first thriller.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not that great... I had seen every where that this book was the next Gone Girl(which I loved), but this book fell short for me, it was not that interesting and I got bored halfway through the book. I kept pushing through until the end but it was not satisfactory at all...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exciting thriller For fans who loved the book "Gone Girl," you'll definitely love "The Girl on the Train," Rachel may seem like a wreck but that's because Tom her ex-husband had captured the audience to view her that way. This book was full of suspenseful twists, made you think, and did not disappoint. Hawkins did a fantastic job with this book. The book was definitely way better than the movie.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Was a fun but an okay read This book pretty was pretty much predictable but I had fun reading it. Would defo recommend it to my friends to see if they could guess the plot twist early on like I did. Now, that would be entertaining to hear their theories.
Date published: 2017-04-27
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A page turner #plumrewards. I never felt the need to watch the movie as all the suspense, twists and imagination I needed was brought out in the pages of this book
Date published: 2017-04-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good read! I enjoyed this book. It has a Gone Girl-like vibe to it. Admittedly not quite as good as Gone Girl, but still a mysterious story that keeps you guessing.
Date published: 2017-04-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I found the main character to be pathetic and impossible to relate to. Interesting twists though and worth the read.
Date published: 2017-04-19
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Predicatable, but entertaining nonetheless This wasn't nearly as exciting as people made it out to be and I had figured out the killer's identity pretty early on as it just seemed like everyday else involved in the death of Megan was getting way too much attention. Basically, this novel tells the story of a recently divorced, struggling alcoholic woman, Rachael, who travels by train into London in a twisted desire to catch a glimpse of her ex-husband and his new family along the way. She begins to obsess about a neighbouring couple who she imagines has this wonderful life. As things unfold, the neighbour's wife goes missing (is eventually found dead), and Rachael, the girl on the train, is determined to find out what happened. Adding to the mystery is that nobody believes her and her description of what she (believes) saw. She is a sad character and, at times, the most pathetic character I have discovered in awhile, but besides the richness of her, there is not a lot else that is overly original.
Date published: 2017-04-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from page turner I loved this book, it kept you guessing from the first page.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great read I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
Date published: 2017-04-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Read I think the book was well written and an easy read. I have yet to watch the movie, but I feel at a certain point if you were paying close attention the novel's characters you know what the ending is before you get there. So that was the only disappointment for me.
Date published: 2017-03-31
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved It! Excellent page turner. The book is so much better than the movie.
Date published: 2017-03-28
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a fan at all This book was a culmination of awful characters and sub-par plot line. I give an extra star for the suspense but that's really it. All the characters were beyond awful and it was painful to get through.
Date published: 2017-03-28
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a fan I wasn't a big fan of this book. I hated the main character and thought the plot was just okay. It was definitely written as a page turner, but just wish it was a more satisfying story.
Date published: 2017-03-25
Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was ok It keeps you in suspense as you try to piece together what may happen, however I found it to be a little anti-climatic throughout the story. A few lulls until you get closer to the end.
Date published: 2017-03-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 7/10 Enjoyed reading this book, but ending was predictable
Date published: 2017-03-24
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good story A quick read and a good story.
Date published: 2017-03-23
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slightly over-rated About 3/4 I saw the ending coming. It wanted to be Gone Girl a little too badly. It was just okay for me.
Date published: 2017-03-22
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Watered Down Gone Girl This book is essentially Gone Girl-lite. It was good and I enjoyed it, but there were so many lulls in things happening that by the end, you're left to wonder whether it was worth it. I will admit that the twists caught me off-guard throughout, and I would absolutely suggest reading this over the movie (which is not very good).
Date published: 2017-03-22
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting take on murder and mystery I am not sure if I expected the ending but I sure did enjoy reading every page of it. I didn't watch the movie to avoid spoiling myself the possible scene cutbacks
Date published: 2017-03-18

Date published: 2017-03-10
Rated 3 out of 5 by from fast-paced Not easy to live up to hype; so this book had a lot of pressure - and I still liked it. A page-turner for sure, and plot twists kept me going. Enjoyable read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast Paced This is a fast paced creepier Gone Girl with absolutely no likeable characters but still I was drawn in. A very interesting and enjoyable read.
Date published: 2017-02-25
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't judge the book based on the movie I felt the movie was garbage and didn't do the book justice. I was in suspense from start to finish and wasn't completely shocked by the ending! I don't know how people found this novel predictable.
Date published: 2017-02-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from enjoyed! easy, fast read that kept my interest!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Predictable and Kind of Boring. I usually love these types of stories but this one?... I honestly didn't like it that much. The story was predictable and kind of all over the place and It is a book I wish I could get my time back from.
Date published: 2017-02-22

Date published: 2017-02-21
Rated 2 out of 5 by from predictable.. good story but it was predictable.
Date published: 2017-02-18
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tried to be Gone Girl, Fell Flat I found this book to be entirely predictable and disturbing. It was as if it was written in a fashion similar to Gone Girl and just fell entirely short.
Date published: 2017-02-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read Kept me interested throughout the entire book and on edge during the twisting ending
Date published: 2017-02-16
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Predictable This is one of those bestsellers that confuses me. It obviously arrived on the scenes on the heels of Gone Girl, but has none of the brilliance. The "unreliable narrator" (who has a drinking problem) frequently second-guesses herself, but turns out to be, for the most part, completely reliable. I saw all the twists coming a mile away and I don't consider myself a particularly good guesser when it comes to plot twists. The writing was well done, it was just the plot that let me down. Overall, I wouldn't recommend.
Date published: 2017-02-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from couldn't put it down this is the kind of book where you think; no, you can't do this! and then she does. the storyline is very intreguing and well developed

Date published: 2017-02-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wow This book was amazing! I really enjoyed the plot, the only reason I didn't give this book a fifth star was because of the style it's written in. I found the book was more "work" to read because it's split through days, but it was nothing unbearable.
Date published: 2017-02-07

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good read This book was a little slow moving for me but the twist ending was great
Date published: 2017-01-26
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Good Read I enjoyed this one, it was definitely a page turner. The three female characters were all interesting and relatable, although I found some plot points predictable and others a little unbelievable. It's been compared to Gone Girl so often, and while this one was good, I preferred Gone Girl. #plumreview
Date published: 2017-01-25
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good! This was labelled as the "Next Gone Girl" and after the trailer came out I was so excited to see it because who doesn't love Emily Blunt and it also had Rebecca Ferguson who I adore from The White Queen. So when it was available at the library i got it and I liked it. I liked that the lead wasn't the typical lead in that she was "barren", overweight and an alcoholic. That she wasn't always reliable for the police or the reader and that made things frustrating at times. I wanted to scream at her to stop drinking which she eventually did but until then it was very difficult to sympathize which is also something you don't always have because the writer tries so hard to make their leads likeable. The weaving of the stories of all three women were interesting and how they all came around the lead man. I found the twist with the baby a little hard to swallow because it didn't relate to strongly to the rest of the plot but it was devastating her life and how it ended like that. Better then the movie but the movie was also good so I would recommend them both.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful I loved the plot, it got me hooked. However, the ending was kind of expected. But is was wonderful terrific.
Date published: 2017-01-17
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult to put down This is a book I read very quickly. It efficiently places you into the mind of each narrator. You understand them whether or not you approve of them. The main character is decidedly messed up, but one can't help but sympathize. There are no unrealistically perfect characters. I did feel somewhat melancholy after finishing it.
Date published: 2017-01-14
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty exciting I read this one after I had read Gone Girl. If you were a fan of that book, you will probably like this one.
Date published: 2017-01-14
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A real page-turner This book was a recommendation for our book club. While I loved reading the book, the discussion that ensued left us all feeling a little flat. Once you've read this fantastic who-done-it, there isn't really much left to talk about. It did have me craving G&T... is that a bad thing? Well-written and very addictive, this book will have you on the edge of your seat.
Date published: 2017-01-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book I got this book over christmas and thought that it might be overhyped... it definitely isn't. It lags in a few areas but picks right back up, and has you questioning the outcome the entire time, and questioning all the characters. Definitely recommend

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 3.5 stars for me 3.5 stars maybe? this one's weird for me. it was intriguing, and fairly easy to read quickly, but it was also fairly slow and honestly, hardly anything happened. I also found everything about the ending really super easy. I don't know. it was good. but not mind blowing in my opinion

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Twists I loved all the twists and turns. This is a great mystery with all the suspense you could ask for mixed with a tad bit of crazy just to keep you guessing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little disappointing I was really excited to read this book and was a little let down. It started off as a good read. I'm always looking for a good ending but this fell a little short.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Predictable The story started off super interesting, with what felt like a dynamic character. But the conclusion fell apart - I don't believe that character would have truly reacted like that. Ended up being a one day read that I most likely wouldn't read again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little predictable I did enjoy this more than I expected, and better than Gone Girl in my opinion. Even so the twists were east to predict. Good summer disposable reading and nothing more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from the "twist" ending is identical to every other I enjoyed the unreliable narrator and the guesswork about whether she was or wasn't alive and what happened. When I got to the conclusion I was utterly disappointed. So generic. Makes me feel like attempted or real murder only ever happens due to one thing in movies and books. Unoriginal ending.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Meh Wasn't that great of a book. Wouldn't recommend the movie or the book to anybody.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing I got caught up in the popularity of this book and decided to give it a try. Underwhelming and disappointing are two words I'd use to describe it. The story was somewhat predictable and the characters were all annoying.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Maybe the movie will be better

Rated 2 out of 5 by from bestseller doesn't mean well written I heard a review of the movie titled 'the girl with no brain' and this line fits the characters perfectly in the book as well. The females in it were dumb and annoying. The ending was better but not sure I'd recommend it as a whole.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Book A little slow to start but quickly became a page-turner. Well written, emotional, witty and very detailed. Would recommend for a fast read.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Underwhelming After hearing so much hype about this book, I finally decided to read it. Was disappointed at how underwhelmed I was by it. Although it was a fast read, and at times entertaining, I found it to be predictable and disappointing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Deatiled. This has detail and time put into it, but a little more would've been nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It was good. That's it. Nothing special, reminded me too much of Gone Girl. Was a little disturbing but well written.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mystery The Girl on the Train was probably published to take advantage of the post-Gone Girl movie release furvor. I don't begrudge them for doing that. Its how the entertainment business works. Not to say that this was a bad book. I couldn't put it down from about the halfway point. And the inevitable film adaptation could be pretty good. But, for me, The Girl on the Train did not have the same effect as Gone Girl. When the big revelation is made in Gone Girl, I was genuinely shocked. No idea that it was coming. In The Girl on the Train, there isn't really a twist because the unreliable narrator steals that opportunity from the reader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Guessing Game Honestly, I only got interested in this novel because I got a sample material from Indigo and then I got hooked and bought the book right away! The suspense, drama, and plot twist are very comparable to real life and real world scenarios. The sexy part makes you more interested and thirsty as to what happens next!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid read... I finished this book in a couple of days. While it did drag at times, the central character kept me enticed. I would recommend the book, not so much the movie as important details are omitted.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but not a "twist" ending I loved the unreliable narrator in this novel - she captivated me from the first page. This book is a complete page-turner. However, the "twist" ending is something that's been done again, and again... and again. I rolled my eyes at the ending. Really? Is that ALWAYS the reason? Is that the ONLY twist we have in this world? So read it, but be ready for the flat and overdone ending.
