With each passing decade, the stature of the blockbuster movie, The Godfather, grows, not just among film buffs, but also among audiences throughout the world discovering, or re-viewing, the film on television and DVD. In polls, Coppola's masterpiece consistently ranks among the two or three greatest films ever brought to the screen. This saga of an Italian-American family and its immersion in Mafia traditions has been imitated and satirized-but never equaled. How to explain the enduring appeal of The Godfather and its two sequels? This book concentrates on the elements that combined, against all odds, to make the Paramount production so successful when it appeared in 1972: the screenplay from Mario Puzo's bestselling novel; a cast of actors who, apart from Marlon Brando, had not yet achieved celebrity; the vivid locations in New York and Sicily; and the inspired direction of Francis Ford Coppola (only 31 years old when shooting commenced).Containing many previously unseen behind-the-scene images from the Paramount Archive, this book is also unique in containing 15 facsimile documents, including:- A poster publicizing the original film- A special leaflet on the prosthetic teeth worn by Marlon Brando- Continuity sheets- A page from Puzo's novel annotated during the writing of the screenplay

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest Godfather book for 5$ I ordered this book on amazon for 49.95 but it was sold out. After a week they asked if I still wanted it or if I wanted to cancel. Before I cancel I started shopping online elsewhere and landed on the Indigo website where I saw the book for 5$, but it was sold out online. I went to the nearest Indigo and there it was. I went to the cash expecting to have to fight to get the price I saw online but the cashier couldn't believe her screen when she saw 5$. I asked is it really 5$ expecting a mistake, she said no that is really the price. I went and grabbed the other copy I saw and figured it would be a nice gift for someone. It is a great book full of nice photos and detachable items like posters and documents from the production of the film. There isn't much you can get for 5$ these days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Godfather: The Official Motion Picture Archives Well worth the dollar value. As a big fan of the movie I was very delighted with the amount of behind the scenes info you get in the book. The posters were a great add in, I have them all framed. I would rate this book a 5 out 5.
