Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint.
One runs for her life. One is left behind . . .

The stunning new novel from the international #1 bestselling author—a searing, spellbinding blend of cold-case thriller and psychological suspense.

Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn’s happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father—Pikeville’s notorious defense attorney—devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night.

Twenty-eight years later, Charlie has followed in her father’s footsteps to become a lawyer herself—the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again—and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized—Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it’s a case that unleashes the terrible memories she’s spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won’t stay buried forever . . .

“I’d follow Karin Slaughter anywhere.” —Gillian Flynn

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Woah! This novel was amazing. Karin Slaughter really did a number on me with this one. At times, it was hard to stomach the situations that came up in the novel, and some issues were really dark but the way she portrayed them really made them believable. The book was anything but predictable. Definitely recommend this novel. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Karin Slaughter This book was so good that I can almost forgive her for not writing a Will Trent book. Karin Slaughter has written two of my favourite series, her. She takes horrific story-lines and handles them with style. With that said...this book had well developed characters, there was a little humour, it is dark, and has interesting twist and turns, with a satisfying ending. THE GOOD DAUGHTER by Karin Slaughter has left this reader wanting more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it If you ever find yourself in need of a good criminal defense lawyer, Rusty Quinn is the man. He is notorious for the acquittals his clients have received. Legendary for his beliefs that all people deserve the best legal defense possible, no matter what their station in life or the crime they've been accused of. With Rusty on your side you'll be singing his praises as well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not What I was Expecting I haven't read any other books by this before so I was excited to read this book, since it came recommended. There was a lot of focus on the family drama and not as much on the case. I thought the ending was a little rushed, but I was still surprised by some of the twists.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Good Daughter is a deliciously slow mystery that marinades its characters to perfection. The Good Daughter is a deliciously slow mystery that marinades its characters to perfection. Though The Good Daughter is a mystery, at its core it’s a story about family and forgiveness. Karin Slaughter has quickly become a go-to author for me in the mystery genre. As Gillian Flynn so succinctly put it on the cover of the novel: “I’d follow her anywhere”. The Good Daughter is not for the faint of heart as it opens with a particularly violent sequence of events that is central to the main characters’ personalities, motivations, and emotions. The Good Daughter focuses on Charlotte 28 years later as she’s forced to face more violence and becomes at risk of being pulled under. Slaughter gives the reader an intricate mystery that grounds the story, but is not the main focus of the novel. Instead, The Good Daughter focuses on its characters. What makes The Good Daughter so compelling is the time Slaughter spends on creating deeply flawed and intricate characters. Charlotte was forever changed when two men entered her home with guns as a young teenager. The events that transpired her changed her forever. Now, as an adult, Charlotte is selfish and irresponsible, but not in the typical sense of those words. The trauma of her past still colours her interpretations and reactions to the world around her. Slaughter slowly unravels the mystery and the characters in a mundane fashion. She’s able to strike a clear balance between managing the plot and keeping the reader interested while writing such complex and three dimensional characters. I’ve left my review purposely vague because I went into The Good Daughter without reading the synopsis. I left my reading experience entirely up to Slaughter and she impressed me as she crushed my heart, attempted to reconstruct it only to destroy it again, and blew my mind all within 500 pages.
