Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Misleading Subtitle Kennedy organizes a huge body of information into a coherent well thought out narrative. If you are looking for a specific history of Islam this book does not get into specifics, as it provides a basic outline of the first phase of Islamic conquest. More background information on the rise of Islam would definitely help some readers with little background knowledge, and additional focus on Al-Andalus would have been nice, given the availability of sources to historians. Overall though, Kennedy proves to be a skilled historian, always cautious in interpretation of primary sources and provides a clear account of the spread of Islam to about 1000 AD..
