Updated to commemorate its 20th anniversary, this classic resource further explores the effects of grief and sheds new light on how to begin to take effective actions to complete the grieving process and work towards recovery and happiness.

Incomplete recovery from grief can have a lifelong negative effect on the capacity for happiness. Drawing from their own histories as well as from others', the authors illustrate how it is possible to recover from grief and regain energy and spontaneity.

Based on a proven program, The Grief Recovery Handbook offers grievers the specific actions needed to move beyond loss. New material in this edition includes guidance for dealing with:

·  Loss of faith

·  Loss of career and financial issues

·  Loss of health

·  Growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional home

The Grief Recovery Handbook is a groundbreaking, classic handbook that everyone should have in their library.

“This book is required for all my classes. The more I use this book, the more I believe that unresolved grief is the major underlying issue in most people’s lives. It is the only work of its kind that I know of that outlines the problem and provides the solution.”—Bernard McGrane, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology, Chapman University

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book - not only for death loss This book is amazing! It was a relief to find out that there's nothing wrong with me when people try to cheer me up by saying things such as "everything happens for a reason" or "don't feel bad" I just get even more upset. This book deals with all kinds of losses, not just death, and the exercises are very helpful. I'm looking forward to completing the relationships with a number of losses in my life. The writers' experiences and advice they share are extremely helpful. Give it a chance if nothing else seems to help you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Before I Go to Sleep This was a good read. The author skillfully and artfully wove the story in a concise and easy to read manner yet maintained the mystery to the end. I read this book in 2 days and enjoyed every minute of it. I gave this rating because it was easy to read, easy to follow, and had a logical thread to the story. The main character was nicely developed ... the author did not fall into the trap of making her a hysterical, mental case. The main character had a problem that a woman of reasonable intelligence and strength of character reasoned out given her disabilities. Nicely done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful End I started reading this book awhile ago but stopped because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to put the book down. I was right about not being able to put the book down. I started reading this book again yesterday and finished it just now. All I have to say without ruining the book or anything was that it is sad but it had a beautiful ending. I love the way the book was written like a journal. It made the main character feel real like I was reading a true story not something made up. The details, of what it's like not remembering anything for more than a day, was written with great care. I really enjoyed this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow What a good book! A bit dry in the middle but it picks it all up and puts it together. Most say they are "left hanging" in the end, I disagree, think about the whole book, it makes sense :D
