YouTube happiest baby on the block swaddling so you know how to do that, then the tips in this book take it over the top. For newborns the swaddling, side/stomach (calm not sleep), shushing (whitenoise), swinging (jiggling), and sucking are the starting tricks. He goes on to explain how to extend sleep and develop good habits. Like 'wake-and-sleep' technique so they know how to fall back to sleep on their own, and for older toddlers 'patience stretching' has been a lifesaver!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lifesaver! The techniques covered in this book have worked wonders for tiny babies to sleep, and it is still my good for my excellent sleeping toddler. Lots of the tips and tricks he suggests make a huge difference in setting up a child with positive sleep habits for life. YouTube swaddling and happiest baby on the block and you are away! For newborns the swaddling, side/stomach, shushing, swinging (jiggling), and sucking help babies transition from the constant noise and stimulation they are used to in the womb. He also provides excellent strategies as your baby grows. Like the 'wake-and-sleep' technique so the baby gets used to falling back to sleep on their own, and for toddlers the patience stretching has been a game changer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Reads like an infomercial There were some good points in this book but I couldn’t help feeling like I was being sold something, more books, dvds cds…ect the author although apparently a doctor by profession sounded more like a cross between a used car sales person and a public health nurse. There seemed to be plenty of room in the book for little side track stories, fun facts, cartoons, non descriptive graphs but the one thing I would have liked to see was a diagram of his swaddle technique(as it differs from the one demonstrated at my delivery hospital) however I have to get the dvd to see that. The basic concepts of good sleep presented here seemed sound but there was just too much mainstream north american propaganda mixed in for my taste the author frequently described parents that subscribe to his way of thinking as “intelligent” ie: “smart parents follow these guide lines”. The “back to sleep” agenda was literally beat to death(as if we don’t hear that a million times before we leave the hospital). The author is an anticosleeper again describing parents that don’t cosleep as “smart” and referring to other methods as “dangerous”. Just my personal opinion but I have a really hard time taking advice seriously when the “professional” giving the advice wants me to purchase a bunch of his products to follow it. remove all the fillers, multiple adjective descriptions, personal stories and silly antidotes and this book could have been condensed into a “guide” but as it stands I would have a hard time recommending this book as a “practical solution provider” to new parents looking for sleep coaching.
