about

Thirty years of celebrating the comic genius of Douglas Adams? On 12 October 1979 the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor (and Earth) was made available to humanity ? The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's an ordinary Thursday lunchtime for Arthur Dent until his house gets demolished. The Earth follows shortly afterwards to make way for a new hyperspace bypass and his best friend has just announced that he's an alien. At this moment, they're hurtling through space with nothing but their towels and an innocuous-looking book inscribed with the big, friendly words: DON'T PANIC. The weekend has only just begun? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved It! I don't usually read sci-fi books but this is one of the exceptions. The book is narrated in a rather light and funny tone while discussion some things that aren't usually discussed so lightly (human existence, God, etc). Overall it's a very interesting and funny book. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my all time favourites I've reread this more often than any other book or series. It's witty, satirical, hard to put down, and highly imaginative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sci-Fi I reread (a rarity for me) Hitchhiker's in September and it was purely enjoyable experience. I first read it, and its sequels, around the time the movie was released. At the time, I recall thinking that the first book was amazing and that the quality decreased with every subsequent book. But, after a quick reread of the first book, it really is an amazing and funny story. Its definitely something that can be read to cleanse yourself of the darker side of scifi and fantasy. Also, I really enjoy the movie. I think it captures the feeling of the book pretty well. And I pictured those actors and voices as I read the book this time.
