Rated 4 out of 5 by from good So I read this book after seeing the movie and was really good. Can be long in some parts but well explained. Was expecting a sequal but none so fare. Original idea on the aliens invading earth and all but again I'm not really into triangles.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Better than Twilight, but still misses the mark The Host has an interesting concept, but fails to be more than a (decent but) forgettable read. It's rife with purple prose and contrived romances, and the crawling story carries on a hundred pages or so longer than necessary. The male characters are all unlikeable, which makes rooting for any couple Meyer presents impossible. Wanda and Melanie deserved better, and so did I.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I enjoyed this one more then Twilight... ...which is weird for me to say that since stories about Aliens are not normally my favorite thing. The aliens reminded me a lot of Animorphs in a weird way (a childrens book series).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slow, But Beautiful As a huge science fiction/fantasy/horror nerd myself, 'The Host' introduces readers to Wanderer--an alien parasite--inside the mind of Melanie. This is a story about 'what is it mean to be human.' Unfortunately (in my personal opinion), 'The Host' is not my kind of book. The pacing is very slow. However, this book has an amazing love story on how Wanderer learns about the human condition and learning about human emotion. 'The Host' is a Sci-fi story, but "it's a science fiction story for people who don't like science fiction." It's slow, but after throughout the pages...it's beautiful

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Couldn't even finish it Just like Twilight, this book has awful purple prose, characters and writing overall. There's no action, and a horrid romance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT STORY - A SOBBER FOR SURE I liked the Twilight series. If you didn't, do not judge this book by those books. Quite different. I've read it several times and have sobbed each time. The movie was not up to par of the book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok It's no secret that I did not jump on the Twilight bandwagon. I put my name on the hold list at the library for The Host, however, because I wanted to see if Stephenie Meyer had improved in her storytelling. I'm happy to say, "Yes, she did. To a point." I would like someone tell me what her fascination is with sappy, overly dramatic dialogue, 17-year old girls and over-protective older men who carry them while running? Because there are some definite similarities here.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Host I really enjoyed this novel. I had watched the movie quite a few years ago, and I thought the entire plot was very intriguing. I really enjoyed Melanie and Wanda, that they turned into not only best friends but family. The reason this novel isn't a 5 star for me is because this novel was so long, and I felt like a lot could have been cut out from it. But after saying that as well I'm glad it was there because this world is so fascinating and interesting! I already knew basically what happened because of the movie, but the ending still slayed me. I was ugly crying, hyperventilating. I really adore the fact that this novel is really more about what it's like to be human. How we take for granted basically everything. This novel is about our emotions, and how yes we are a violent species. I love the love square throughout this novel. It was very interesting, and ah it was the best! And so complicated, it made the novel very fun. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone because it's pretty phenomenal and I think there is something to be learned from the content.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Host I loved this, smart, creative, and emotional. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Captivating Novel Despite The Lack Of Action This was a wonderful novel, despite the fact that is was a mere retelling of daily, mundane life. Okay, sort of mundane life. There was some action, but generally it was recounting the day-to-day happenings of the main character, which was surprisingly not boring. For a Young Adult book, it is a change of pace, and I think that's what I liked about it. Kept me hooked from the beginning to the end, and I would love it if she were to write a sequel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this book! I liked the twilight series but when I got a hold of The Host I couldn't put it down. The love Triangles that Stephenie Meyers creates draw you right in!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All Time favourite I borrowed the book from the library and after reading it 5 times, I had to get my own copy. I love this book so much, it never gets old.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from meh This book was all right. Better than twilight by a mile, but still pretty average overall. Very quick read because of the simple writing style Meyer uses, though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The Host I didn't enjoy this as much as Twilight, but I still love love triangles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Stephenie Meyer... I think she is a terrific story teller but not the greatest writer of all time, although she has gotten better over time. There were times in this book (and her others) where I was nauseated by the excessive romance. However I do love a good romance story and this is one of them. Melanie is definitely like-able and not perfect. Her concern for her brother is very moving and there were several interesting characters throughout.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay Overall, this book was pretty decent. It took me awhile to get into it, so I wasn't too impressed for most of it. I found it difficult to understand the concept of what was happening the first time I read it. However, I understood it better the second time around. It also seemed pretty long-winded for a single book with a pretty basic plot. I wasn't too sure about what the actual point of the novel was, as there is no clear climax that I can remember.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just okay Stephanie Meyer is not a great writer but she does know how to tell a very good story. I loved the Twilight stories and was looking forward to what she would write next. Maybe it says something about me that I can accept vampires but not aliens who take over our minds, but I wasn't really taken with this book. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ! I adored this book ! When I first bought this (around the same time that the first Twilight movie had just come out), the woman at the book store had told me that a lot of people were buying and returning this book because it "wasn't Twilight"....but that's the point. I gave this book a chance and I'm so glad that I did because it still is one of my favourites.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow to start but worth the read It's a very big book. The first part is a little hard to get through but it picks up a lot in the second half.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good! This was a great read! I read it after watching the movie and i must say the movie doesn't do the book justice! Even better than the movie basically:)
Date published: 2017-02-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good I did not like the "other" books that Meyer wrote... but I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this one!
Date published: 2017-01-31
Rated 2 out of 5 by from The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer Creative plot idea, but it could have been so much more if she had explored the conflicts between Melanie and Wanda more thoroughly and left a morally obvious choice without a happy ending. Then it would have been a book for adults. The book was too shallow and slow enough that I probably wouldn't read it again.
Date published: 2017-01-30
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Read I really enjoyed the concept of this book. Taking an alien race and introducing them forcibly into society they way they were. Naturally when you have an oppressing force you need some kind of resistance. Again, was an interesting way of introducing that. Different ideas and was like nothing I'd ever read before

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! You really cannot judge an author by a movie. Stephanie Meyer has written GOLD in all of her books and she is one of my favorite authors yet. The story in this book can relate to real life almost by being judged for who you are. Fantastic story. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Good Book I know a lot of people who gave up on this because the first 12 chapters are very sci-fi heavy but if you keep reading you won't be disappointed. I really enjoyed this book, I love the characters and the sci-fi elements are really cool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from loved it I originally listened to the audio book and didn't get what was going on, but once I realized it I got hooked and loved it so much that I've read and re-read it a few times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this book This was one of my favourite books to read. Really liked the plot and was well written.
Date published: 2016-12-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4.5 Stars I would argue that this is Stephenie Meyer's best book so far (and yes, I've read The Chemist.) The Host has everything: incredible world-building, an enthralling plot, and likable/fascinating characters. Didn't like Twilight? You should still read this book! I'm honestly surprised it was written by Stephenie Meyer. The romance won't make you sick and the heroine isn't some weak, simpering idiot.
Date published: 2016-12-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE I did not expect to like this book. Following Twilight I just didn't think it could keep me as interested. However, I think I may have even liked it more then Twilight... so good! Fingers crossed for a sequel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Original I loved The Host, I literally could not put it down. It had a slow beginning but once she found the humans I was sucked in. I can see my self reading this again and again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing but a slow start When I started reading this it took me a while to push through the beggining, once I pushed through it the book was AMAZING, Stephanie Meyer knows how to write an amazing love story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good I thought this was an excellent book. A unique storyline. Completely different from Stephanie Meyer's other books but just as good!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good This book is a slow start and you have to push through but after you do it gets amazing.
Date published: 2016-11-06
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! I am sure you will like this if you love books with romance, adventure and some thrill in it.... not for younger teens though as the plot is very unusual (as it talks about outer beings and lifeforms)... still recommend this for a great read.
Date published: 2016-11-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! I read this book a few years ago, and I absolutely loved it. I cried during the movie after it came out because I remembered how emotional the scene was when I read it in the book.
Date published: 2016-05-16
Rated 3 out of 5 by from 3 1/2 stars I am not going to lie, this book is great, BUT SOME OF IT IS SO BORING I ALMOST THREW IT ACROSS THE ROOM. I found the book hard to get through, mostly at the part when it was just Wanderer and Melanie talking. Basically, you need a lot of patience to get through this book, although the idea and writing is great. I definitely recommend this book to fans of books like Lux or Shadow Falls.
