John Francis Campbell was a Scottish author, mostly known as a collector of folklore. Inspired by the work of the Grimm brothers and by Scandinavian scholars, John Campbell used his fluent Gaelic to study the Gaelic oral tradition, and published four volumes of collected stories as “Popular Tales of the West Highlands Orally Collected”, with a Translation in 1860-1862.
Once upon a time, a group of animals found a keg of butter in a forest. They buried it in the ground and went away. A several time later, they returned to that place and dug it out. The barrel was almost empty. The quarrel began… Who was the thief? Who was right? Read the story to know!
