They thought the end came in a flash.

Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth, killing most of the population.

The worst is yet to come.

Mark and Trina were there when it happened. They survived. But now a virus is spreading. A virus that fills humans with murderous rage.

There is no cure. No escape.

They’re convinced that there’s a way to save those who are left—if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some you’re worth more dead than alive.

The end is only the beginning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Bad This book is not that bad considering it has an all new cast. I think this novel satisfies anyone's thoughts about how exactly the flare got around and how people first responded.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The kill order I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved how it explained everything that happened before the maze runner series. It explained how the Flare started to spread, and how a group of average citizens lived through it. The one thing I didn't like was that some details (which I cannot explain because I do not want to spoil the book for you) were left out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The kill order I think it is a very well-written book but I would not recommend reading this book just to say "Oh, i have read all the books in the series" because it does have a lot of gore and is very sad but I think that is what the author was trying to get at and he did very well at that, on the other hand I would read if you want to understand more the story behined "The maze runner" because it explained alot. So I think it is a great book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great prequel Not as captivating as the first three books, but still quite enjoyable to get a bit of background and a better understanding of the setting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The kill order I really liked this book! Even though it is based of of new characters, you will not put the book down. As they continue on their journey you start to build a relationship with these characters. You also get a story about Thomas and Theresa in W.I.C.K.E.D when they were young. I would say this is a good book to read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The Kill Order Review A fascinating b00k that fills in gaps from The Maze Runner series. The characters were adequately developed, but the plot was flawed by so many repetitive fight scenes. The book reads well if you skim through the fight scenes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from James Dashner has done it again! There’s jut something about James Dashner’s writing that sucks you in and doesn’t let up until that last page is read. The Kill Order was no different. There’s a lot of fast-paced action with a similar purpose as The Maze Runner, survival. Before the Gladers ever came to be, there was Mark. He was there when the sun flares dropped from the sky burning everything in sight, including human flesh. As gruesome as that sounds, there were a lot of scenes which were too horrible to picture. I don’t want to spoil it, but once you read these parts, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Apart from the gruesome scenes, the plot moves fast. Mark tries to find out the truth behind the people who shot his village with a virus, rescuing his best friend, and most importantly, trying to stay sane when the virus starts to claim him. His battle between his normal conscious self, to the violent crazy self was intense. You can tell it takes a toll on him but he’s strong enough to fight it. The description says a lot about Trina, his best friend, but she was hardly in the story to begin with. The romance was cute, not too cheesy and too winded. There was a lot going on so I’m glad it wasn’t the main focus. The viewpoints change from the past to the present. It bothered me a tiny bit, just because there was such a break in the story. I would rather have liked it better if it was one continuous story-line. It would have flowed better in my opinion. James Dashner has done it again, and I can’t wait what else he has in store for us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME PREQUEL --slight spoiler-- James Dashner did it again! The Kill Order was just as good as the others, and it really was creative. Although I would have wanted to learn more about Thomas' pre-Glade life, this suited me just fine. The novel took place 13 years prior to Thomas entering the Glade, and it demonstrated how complex a problem the sickness really was (which wasn't known while reading the Maze Runner trilogy). I loved Mark's flashbacks describing what exactly happened when the sunflares first struck, and it was extremely interesting having the novel narrated in the perspective of a Crank, one who was infected with the Flare. I was on edge the ENTIRE book and was just so captivated in this novel. I hope there is another book after this prequel, because it ended off as a cliffhanger. I loved how it had a bittersweet ending and that the book was not at all predictable. Loved this book-- just awesome.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fabulous prequel to Maze Runner Series The Good Stuff fast paced non stop action - you are constantly on the edge of your seat Intriguing male protagonist Nice dark humour Love the relationship between Mark and Alec - most of the best scenes involved the two of them Will break your heart at times adore Dashner's writing style, he is one of those gifted storytellers whom I admire Good tie in to the Maze Runner series, really gives a good back-story to the series I know its not really important - but I love the cover! Very much highlights the willpower that humans have to live no matter what I dare you not to fall in love with Alec Fabulous ending if there is going to be another prequel - and if there isn't Mr Dashner I just may have to slap you (BTW you were totally adorable at BEA and I have a mad geek crush on you now) The Not So Good Stuff intense and hard to read at times - so much death and mentions young children - I am such a pansy but any mentions of death or abuse of children sickens me and had to put book down for a while Could have used a wee bit more character development not a lot of hope in this one my friends - not a bad thing, but its something I prefer Favorite Quotes/Passage ``The girl loved to read like no one else, and she was making up for the months they spent literally running for their lives. when books were few and far behind. The digital kind were all long gone, as far as Mark could guess - wiped away when the computers and servers all fried. Trina read the old-school paper kind. Òh, I`m good. Seriously, after all these years, you`d think I would stop amazing myself. But here I am, still doing it.`` ``Crazy buggers is right - I was hoping they`d all die in the fire.`Mark said it before realizing how terrible it sounded. But the side of him that wanted to survive at all costs - that had become ruthless over the last year - knew it was the truth.`` Who Should/Shouldn't Read Obviously fans of the Maze Runner series will lap it up Those who haven`t read this will be intrigued enough to read the rest of the series Good for reluctant YA readers If you like dystopian or post apocalyptic fiction, pretty sure you will like this 4.25 Dewey's I received this from Random House in exchange for an honest review
