In "The Devil," a young man finds it impossible to resist a beautiful peasant woman with whom he had an affair before his marriage. And "Father Sergius" shows a man going to increasingly desperate ends in order to avoid the temptations of the flesh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Book This book was great. The Kreutzer Sonata was my favourite story here, but the rest were also well written. Recommended for those with traditional values, because this story is mostly a heavily philosophical explanation of why progressive behaviour needed to change within Russian society in the 1870s.
