about

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From stand-up comedian, actress, and breakout star of Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish, comes The Last Black Unicorn, a sidesplitting, hysterical, edgy, and unflinching collection of (extremely) personal essays, as fearless as the author herself.

Growing up in one of the poorest neighborhoods of South Central Los Angeles, Tiffany learned to survive by making people laugh. If she could do that, then her classmates would let her copy their homework, the other foster kids she lived with wouldn’t beat her up, and she might even get a boyfriend. Or at least she could make enough money—as the paid school mascot and in-demand Bar Mitzvah hype woman—to get her hair and nails done, so then she might get a boyfriend.

None of that worked (and she’s still single), but it allowed Tiffany to imagine a place for herself where she could do something she loved for a living: comedy.

Tiffany can’t avoid being funny—it’s just who she is, whether she’s plotting shocking, jaw-dropping revenge on an ex-boyfriend or learning how to handle her newfound fame despite still having a broke person’s mind-set. Finally poised to become a household name, she recounts with heart and humor how she came from nothing and nowhere to achieve her dreams by owning, sharing, and using her pain to heal others.

By turns hilarious, filthy, and brutally honest, The Last Black Unicorn shows the world who Tiffany Haddish really is—humble, grateful, down-to-earth, and funny as hell. And now, she’s ready to inspire others through the power of laughter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I howled I first saw Tiffany in Girls Trip and I completely fell in love with her. Not only is she a fantastic and believable actress, but she's fully as hell. Reading this memoir was shocking. It's hard to believe someone so humble and incredible went through such a rough life. Give this a read, you won't regret it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Funny Read I liked the casual tone of this book and I thought that Tiffany Haddish's stories were enjoyable to read. I do wonder if maybe this book would be better as an audiobook though, because the way it is written feels as if someone transcribed what she said. Don't get me wrong--it was a good book--but it just felt like more of an oral narrative than a written one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so good I absolutely could not put this book down one of the best reads I have had in a long time. t was real with a great comic relief. Put together really great I laughed so hard and cried so hard in all different parts. I am now a true fan of Tiffany I love when I see stories of people making there own way rather than going on the tail coat of others

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Raw and real comedian's journey I got this book because I liked Tiffany Haddish on The Carmichael Show. I really admire her for putting everything out there and not holding anything back, and telling her story in a way that is so unapologetically herself. "Raw" and "real" are definitely the right words to describe this book. Her experiences made me laugh at times and almost cry at others - her journey to discovering her purpose in life is a crazy and rough one. Kudos to the woman who couldn't read until ninth grade but still wrote a bestseller!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO funny! I first saw Tiffany on the Jimmy Kimmel show, when she told the story about using a Groupon when she took Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith on a swamp tour in New Orleans. Her story was hilarious! Her book is also SO funny and also honest. Funny people seem to have had a difficult life or a difficult life experience. Tiffany's stories are real, honest and hilarious, and also heart breaking about her very difficult upbringing as she tells about her personal experience in foster homes and being abused. You will laugh out loud when reading parts of this book.
