Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Second Book The Laughing Corpse is the second book in the Anita Blake series by Hamilton, and although it can be read as a stand-alone novel, it’s better if you know the back story, so I would recommend starting with Guilty Pleasures. This time out, Anita and the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team (RPIT) are on the trail of a killer zombie that is literally tearing apart families. But Anita has more on her plate than just her work for RPIT. She is still having to deal with the machinations of Jean-Claude, the stylish and sexy vampire from Guilty Pleasures, who has now been elevated to Master of the City. She also has to deal with a very pushy client who wants a zombie raised and won't take no for an answer. This second book continues to be as good as the first. The action is pretty much non-stop, but Hamilton still does an excellent job of characterization. Even the supporting cast is well filled out. I especially liked that we learn more about Anita's affinity with the dead and of course, Anita’s reluctant relationship with Jean-Claude is well written with plenty of sexual, if not romantic, tension. Be warned that there are some fairly horrific, gruesome descriptions of the murder scenes though - There's a reason this series is found in the horror section. 2010-084

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing. Gotta admit, albeit I really enjoyed the first book, it was nothing compared to this book. The second novel of the Anita Blake series really came to life. It was soooooo good. The police scenes were so real, so gory, so devastating. I loved how Hamilton really took the time to develop the characters, even more so on Anita and Jean-Claude. I'm definitely hooked, thank god there are many books in this series.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just terrible I did not like this book. It was all over the place with no real storyline. And just when it seemed like it might go somewhere, it ended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible! After reading the first book in the series I was absolutely hooked and I couldn't put this second book down. As soon as I sat down with it I hadn't set it down until I was through. It's an incredible series and I highly recommend any book written by this author.
