Laurence Sterne (Nov 24, 1713 - Mar 18, 1768) was an Irish-born English novelist and an Anglican clergyman. He is best known for his novels The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, and A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy; but he also published many sermons, wrote memoirs, and was involved in local politics. The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, gentleman is a humorous novel by Laurence Sterne. The plot follows Tristram, narrating the story of his life. He is the son of a Yorkshire landowner and turkey merchant. Misfortunes and misbehaving are totally common in his life. He suffered numerous injuries; he was christened Tristram by mistake, he tried to pee out of the window and many more. But he shares stories of his misadventures with life-assuring humor and upheaving optimism.
