about

A mass-market paperback edition of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, book two in the classic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. This edition features black-and-white illustrations by the original illustrator, Pauline Baynes, and eight pages of stills from the epic motion picture.

Four adventurous siblings—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie—step through a wardrobe door and into the land of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change . . . and a great sacrifice.

Step through the wardrobe and into The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the second book in C. S. Lewis's classic fantasy series, which has been enchanting readers of all ages for over sixty years. This is a stand-alone novel, but if you want to return to Narnia, read The Horse and His Boy, the third book in The Chronicles of Narnia.

Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge Univer...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from favourite childrens book ever! I will never forget how magical it felt as a young child reading this, especially Lucy finding the closet into the other world and meeting Mr. Tumnus. It was pure genius! As an adult, I re-visited this book and the following ones with my children. It just doesn't compare! Loved it and still love it. :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Such a good book. How could you not love it? Great to read to kids, but bigger themes that people of all ages can relate to: what it means to betray someone and still be loved in t return, what true sacrifice is, what it means to be part of a family, loss, love, friends, the list goes on. If you haven't read it, it's a quick read - so get your hands on one! "Here is your brother," he said, "and – there is no need to talk to him about what is past." Edmund shook hands with each of the others and said to each of them in turn, "I'm sorry," and everyone said "That's all right." And then everyone wanted very hard to say something which would make it quite clear that they were all friends with him again – something ordinary and natural – and of course no one could think of anything in the world to say."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Beautiful World in a Beautiful Story THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PAGES IN THIS BOOK. The world of Narnia was and is one of my favourite places to visit. “The castle of Cair Paravel on its little hill towered up above them; before them were the sands, with rocks and little pools of salt water, and seaweed, and the smell of the sea and long miles of bluish-green waves breaking for ever and ever on the beach. And oh, the cry of the seagulls!" THIS WORLD. Everything is clever and I want to go to Narnia too - take me Lucy, take me! There are lessons within the story about morals and doing the right thing, yes, but it is also a fantasy world where animals talk and children can reach magical lands through closets, and it is a vibrant combination of all that is good and all that is wrong. “People who have not been in Narnia sometimes think that a thing cannot be good and terrible at the same time.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A mysterious and exciting world The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the first book C.S. Lewis wrote introducing readers to the fantastic world of Narnia, and what an introduction it is. This book is an exciting adventure story which every child should get that chance to read. It's full of mystery, suspense, joy and battles that ignite the imagination.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Story A classic book that brings back memories of childhood. A book that proves easy for any reader to get into.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read this with my children. I have 4 children ages 8 and under and the oldest was the only one who really stayed glued to me while I read, the others tended to wander. Which I understand as this is a little out of their grasp. I remember reading this when I was a child and how descriptive it was I could picture Narnia in my head. My daughter would have had me read all night from start to finish. She loved it too, of course! There was lots of questions from her and It gave opportunity to talk about them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect!!!! Wow although this book is usually read by kids I reccommend this book to people of all ages. I thought this book was great from the first page to the last. I dont want to give spoilers in case you have not seen the movie or read this book but if you like miracles you should read this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Book This is an amazing book. The writing is wonderful, the characters seem so real you feel you know them and you get a real feel for the place and time. I highly recommend this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from always winter...never Christmas When I read this book as a child, I was swept up in the story, cried for Aslan, cheered for Lucy and wondered what Turkish Delight was. I read it again when I was expecting my now nine year old daughter. I longed for the comfort that this book gave me as a child. I gained something completely different from the story. The book made me think of the plight of the children sent to the North during the bombings of London. When I reread this book again, with my nine year old, I saw the wonder of Narnia once again. The layers of this story are amazing and that is why this is a classic peice of children's literature. My daughter was was just as carried away with the Land of Spare Oom as I was.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Read it at 11!! A really great book, making you feel like a kid agian. It was really something to want to read, and think about all your imaginary friends, and fantasy life all kids think about. THe movie was almost identical , and pretty good too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing Beats this Classic! I first read this novel when I was a pre-teen and I still find myself enthralled with it as an adult. This book trancends time and is a wonderful read whether you're seven or seventy. This book must be read more than once to do it justice, it has many layers and I find myself discovering new things about Narnia and the metaphors used by Lewis in this enchanting novel. I wouldn't hestitate to recommend this book to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Before JK Rowling there was CS Lewis This is a masterpiece of magic for children and adults. With the new movie out from Disney it will only introduce the wonders of a mysterious wardrobe to a new audience. Lewis' moral rigor and Christian intellect blend a delicate balance of a mythical tale designed for young minds. Characters are larger than life, riverting, rich, and personify deep values close to Lewis heart. In the battle between the fallen (Queen Jadis, the White Witch) and the risen (Aslan, the Great Lion) .. Lewis' imagery drives home the point that some things are just plain wrong, others are just plain right, and the reasons are for one's own good and the good of others. Curses can be broken and that is a beautiful rendition of what the power of love and light symbolized. One doesn't neeed to be a religious person or raised a Christian too get the moral of this story - that the reward for dignity out of love rather than fear - is well worth the battles within and outside of ourselves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Freaking Amazing This has got to be one of my favourite books EVER...It was truly amazing. C.S.Lewis out-did himself in this book (it makes up for the rest of the Narnia collection which wasn't that great) my imagination was soaring to other places that I hadn't thought of and I truly enjoyed it..I have been reading that book at least once every year (since I was about 8) I am telling you, you will love it. I suggested my cousin to read it and she wasn't all excited at first but she read it and lets just say we have another fan..anyways my thoughts to you READ IT, BUY IT, LOVE IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Historical The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe althought not my favorite book of all time is definitely in my top 5. C.S. Lewis combines imagination, mythology, legend and truth in his Narnia chronicles. This book has everything a reader could want, adventure, comedy, drama, action and a shred of mystery. It will leave with mystified and hungry for more. Good thing there are more books in this amazing and historical series. A must read for young and old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe As a child I loved this book as well as the entire Narnia Chronicles! I was transported from the wardrobe into Narnia to experience the warmth of hot tea and a fire to the coolness of the ice queen. As an adult I can read these timeless classics to and with my own children. They are as enthusiastic about them as I was. They are great books, you will not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe I think that this book was great! The first one, The Witches Nephew wasn't as exciting and was a little boring. It was totaly different from the frist one but still connected with the first one. I loved it and I would seggest it to anyone who likes Harry Potter (i've read all 4) or other amaginary stories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best book in the World The best books take you somewhere where you would like to go, and always want you to go back for a visit. With Narina it is exactly like that. The classic tale of good battling evil, scenes to delight, a land where we would all live if we could only find our own wardrobe....Give me Narnia any day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe was an astonishing book in many different ways. I found the book to be very interesting and different from other books. I liked the fact that the book was a fairytale but grew to be more realistic. I also liked how the author portrayed the characters and was careful describing them . The book was really good and I would recommend it to kids of all ages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best book i have read yet!! A very good book especially for kids such as myself. Very descriptive and very easy to understand. My personal opinion is that it is worth 5 stars because of the many adventures the children had and the detail the author had put into the book. For example "The Witch", she was very easy to understand what she looked like because of how the author described her. My favourite character was "Aslan the Lion" because he was the big hero... -Aaron Freedman, 12

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe I picked this book because it can be enjoyed on different levels by adults and children. It has all the elements necessary for a great book: the fight between good and evil, escape to another world, a journey for the hero, great character development and excellent descriptions. I remember reading this book as a child and being so wrapped up in it that I felt I was right there in Narnia. I also wished that we had a wardrobe so I could go to another place through it. I can still close my eyes and picture the events that took place. I'm sure that this book will still be a classic one-hundred years from now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe This is the book that introduced me to the world of reading. I had no idea what to expect when a teacher handed me a well-worn copy. What I found was a story that challenged my imagination and opened the doors of possibility. I discovered that going through the wardrobe with Lucy was as easy as opening a book to the first page, and the other side of that wardrobe could lead anywhere at all. I devoured the whole series over the summer holidays, and haven’t been able to stop reading since.
