**THE INTERNATIONAL, NEW YORK TIMES and SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, WITH OVER HALF A MILLION COPIES SOLD AROUND THE WORLD** In 2016, the world discovered hygge. Denmark has an international reputation for being one of the happiest nations in the world, and hygge is widely recognised to be the magic ingredient to this happiness. Hygge has been described as everything from "the art of creating intimacy", "cosines of the soul", "the absence of annoyance" to "taking pleasure from the presence of soothing things", "cosy togetherness" and "the pursuit of everyday pleasures". Hooga? Hhyooguh? Heurgh? It is not really important how you choose to pronounce or even spell 'hygge'. What is important is that you feel it. Whether you're cuddled up on a sofa with a loved one, or sharing comfort food with your closest friends, hygge is about creating an atmosphere where we can let your guard down. The Little Book of Hygge is the definitive, must-read introduction to hygge, written by Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen. The book is packed full of original research on hygge, conducted by Meik and his team, along with beautiful photographs, recipes and ideas to help you add a touch of hygge to your life. Meik Wiking has the best job in the world: as the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, he is on a mission to discover what makes people happy. The "Indiana Jones of Smiles" wrote The Little Book of Hygge to better understand why Denmark consistently comes first in global happiness rankings. Following lots of research and insight, he came to the conclusion that hygge is the magic ingredient. When he's not studying political science and writing several books and reports on happiness, wellbeing and quality of life, he enjoys photography and playing tennis (quite badly) with friends.
Meik Wiking is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen. He is committed to finding out what makes people happy and has concluded that hygge is the magic ingredient that makes Danes the happiest nation in the world.Meik Wiking is the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen. Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! This is such a cute book. Along with everyone's comments about it being common sense and such, it is still a good read. The recipes are especially an added delight. I'm already practicing what is written, but it reinforces my love and passion to visit and potentially live in Northern Europe. Wholesome content, 6/5

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it This book changed how I live my life! Lots of information about what hygge really is, similar words in other languages/cultures, Pronounciation, and my favourite: the hygge manifesto, which I actually did print off, and put on my fridge as a daily reminder about the environment/life I want to create with and for my family.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh.. Not to diminish the concept of comfort and community, but this book in my opinion is a lot of hype. Overly repetitive, lacking in real substance and creative content.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought This For A Gift I bought this for a friend as a Christmas present as it was one of the better reviewed Hygge books out there. She seems to love it and I'm also tempted to purchase it for myself as I'm intrigued by the Hygge concept. The book is smaller than I expected. Perhaps it's meant to be pocket/travel size. That being said, the book is pretty thick and would make a good coffee table book too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from KonMari's book and this book are best friends. I read this book post KonMari craze and I feel it was a great sequel to it. After purging and getting rid of clutter reading about hygge forces you to apply 'self-care' to your surroundings. A quick read that helps promote the feeling of coziness we are looking for. I'd recommend reading it post holiday season when winter can seem long, bleak, and without a vacation in sight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from How is this book 4.5 stars? I picked this up because it was on sale and it had glowing reviews (plus it had a cute cover). As I was reading it though I couldn't decide - is it serious? is it a satire? is it supposed to be funny? Or maybe my brain is just hardwired not to hygge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a charming book! I loved reading this book. The writing enabled me to be completely immersed in the Danish culture, the illustrations were darling, and after I was done reading, I wanted to go full on hygge. I think we all do, deep down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from cute and interesting The book presents how you can live comfortable and classic without extra nonsense stuffs. It is a style, and will lead to a simplified, efficient lifestyle.
Date published: 2017-07-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very cute, very interesting The book itself seems to really embody the sense of 'hygge' that it focuses on. About the only way it could be even more so would be with scratch and sniff pages offiring smells like bonfire smoke, hot chocolate, or wet leaves. The pictures and details were very aesthetically pleasing, and I really enjoyed not only the explanations and expounding on the concept itself, but also the history and background of its place in cultures. A very interesting and enjoyable read, but beware of the Pinterest binge it will surely inspire.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This book will bring you back to your Happy Place This book reminds me of a cafe i love to go to. It's in a mall, a mall where there is plenty of choices to get a coffee. Places like Starbuck who even sell sparkling shit. But somehow, the sparkles did not make them my favourite. This Cafe is in a clothing store. it small, there is only room for 1 person or 2 behind the bar, but usually only 1. People working there do not wear apron or name tags, but if you chit chat with them, you might as well find it out! You can either sit a 1 little wooden table, on a leather coach with a wooden table in front, or at a little bar facing a window where you can play people watching! There is no stress there, no huge lineups or impatient people. Everything is slow paced and it's the way we like it. But i could not tell you why it's my favourite place, until i red it in an interview with the owner. He said: ''At Neve, we feel like being in someone's apartment. And that's just it. That's what makes it so special and perfect. This is what this book is about. This kind on feeling, this leather coach, the warm feeling of the coffee and knowing the name of your barista. It's for these types of feelings and creating moments in your life that will bring these feelings to you, moment with friends, intimacy, togetherness, the warm feeling of fire and hot drink. And the pleasure of creating memories!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book is so comforting and I loved it! Honestly, Danish people and Canadians both have one common struggle: winter. We both know that winter is cold, terrible and depressing. On the 'bright' side of things, this book, "The Little Book of Hygge" provides readers with background information on how Denmark citizens live in the Hygge way of life with candles, tea, warmth, etc. The book is an easy read and a great escape from school work for students like myself. I would recommend it to friends, family and anyone who wants to attempt the hygge lifestyle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good book for your coffee table Admittedly, I picked up this book because I have seen it (along with the concept of 'hygge') everywhere lately. It was a good, quick read but it didn't necessarily contain any new ideas or concepts inside. I think a lot of the tips that were addressed to make life more enjoyable are well-known/common sense. But with that being said, it's a lot harder to put those tips into action. Overall, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for someone to read but I think it would make an excellent coffee table/waiting area book. It contains some useful information and is well illustrated with vivid colours.
