A pilot forced to crash land in the Sahara desert encounters a little prince who is visiting the earth from his own small planet with its three volcanoes and a beautiful flower. Through this meeting, the aviator comes to discover many of life's universal truths which illuminate the human condition with all its foibles, cunning end eccentricities. This wonderful and remarkable book will enchant both children and adults alike. It is a strange parable for all ages, championing the beauty and wisdom of childhood which fades when one becomes 'a grown up.'
Antoine de Saint-Exupery's book has been translated into over 180 languages and sold over 80 million copies. Its magic is in its charm, its simplicity and its truths which speak to people of many nations and generations. Saint Exupery's original illustrations have had their colour carefully enhanced by Barbara Firth. This specially commissioned new translation is by Ros and Chloe Schwartz.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Timeless classic for all ages I love it when I get a chance to read a book that has been on my 'to-read' list for a while. When I end up finishing the book, I usually end up thinking 'why didn't I read this sooner?'. This is one of those books. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exup?ry is classified as a children's book, but I think that people of all ages can take away from this story. The little prince is a beautiful story, one I would love to share with my kids, and one that I would love to re-read myself. I am interested in reading the French version of the story, to be treated to the beautiful prose in it's original form. It is a great story, because you can take from it whatever you like. It can either be a whimsical tale of a prince who flew to Earth then returned to his home to be with his flower. Or it can be a story so wrought with meaning and emotions that it takes many readings to wrap you head around it. I love a story like this, because each time you read it, you gain a new perspective on something. As a parent reading this story, it puts the innocence and imagination of my children into the spotlight of my mind so that I can make sure I appreciate it more, and stop being so concerned with other matters of consequence. Everyone should read this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cute and Brilliant I am not much of a fan of the classics, but this book is an exception to it. Not only is The Little Prince a cute story, but the reflections it shows on society is brilliant. With each planet the Little Prince visits, he meets someone that is obsessed with doing their role. Each one of those people reflect upon us, and how, as we become adults, turn into one of these people. We focus on things like our jobs, and never really appreciate the beauty of the little things in life. We also lose our creative and imaginative minds we have as a child, and how we view things in ways no adult can understand, or adults think are foolish. The coloured pictures in this version of the book are also beautiful. The physical book itself is small, pocket sized, with the pages tinted in a gold colour, so that when you physically hold the book, the pages look gold. I can really see how this book can be appropriate to both children and adults. This is truly, a timeless classic.
