about

"We should expect this young woman to be more powerful than our average novice, possibly even more powerful than the average magician."

This year, like every other, the magicians of Imardin gather to purge the city of undesirables. Cloaked in the protection of their sorcery, they move with no fear of the vagrants and miscreants who despise them and their work—until one enraged girl, barely more than a child, hurls a stone at the hated invaders . . . and effortlessly penetrates their magical shield.

What the Magicians' Guild has long dreaded has finally come to pass. There is someone outside their ranks who possesses a raw power beyond imagining, an untrained mage who must be found and schooled before she destroys herself and her city with a force she cannot yet control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun read Amazing book by an outstanding author. Was enticed from beginning to end. A brilliant start to a fascinating trilogy of books. If you like Harry Potter, mixed with a bit of secrecy, lies and thieves, then these books will be un-put-downable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 stars One of the best fantacy book series I've read in a long time. Not written for tweens, but not a complicated read either! Great series

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fraught with mystery A story with many sides, begins with a child Sonea who has learned to hate the magician's guild her whole life. Now she must discard all that she has heard and seen and accept the cards that fate has dealt her. The question truly is , can she do it? This novel is an excellent read, full of magic, and truly a great extension of magical fantasy as we know it today. You will find yourself cursing the mages, and cheering Sonea on throughout the novel, but there may be a change..... This is a must have.
