Shadowland is the first book in the thrilling, romantic Mediator series, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Princess Diaries, Meg Cabot.

Suze is a mediator—a liaison between the living and the dead. In other words, she sees dead people. And they won't leave her alone until she helps them resolve their unfinished business with the living.

But Jesse, the hot ghost haunting her bedroom, doesn't seem to need her help. Which is a relief, because Suze has just moved to sunny California and plans to start fresh, with trips to the mall instead of the cemetery, and surfing instead of spectral visitations. But the very first day at her new school, Suze realizes it's not that easy.

There's a ghost with revenge on her mind...and Suze happens to be in the way.

Don't miss the delightfully funny supernatural Mediator series, from New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A series worth to read! This is the first time I ever read a book from Meg Cabot and I did enjoy it. It’s a fun Young Adult Paranormal with a bit of romance. The story is about Susannah Simon or Suze, an extroverted and mischievous sixteen-year-old who moves out from New York to California with her mom, who has remarried, to live with her step dad and her three step brothers. Suze actually likes her stepdad and she doesn’t really mind her new stepbrothers (which she has nicknames for them) but she didn’t like the fact she had to move to California. Suze doesn’t share these thoughts to her mother because her stepdad makes her mom happy and that’s all that matters to Suze. She gets to start a new life in bright and sunny California in a new house and new school. Suze has a special gift that no one knows about. She is a mediator: someone who can see and talk to dead people. She tries to help them to move on with their unfinished business. If a ghost bothers her so much, she can literately kick their butts to scare them off. That’s how a badass she can be. In her new home, she finds out that her new room is haunted by a hot cowboy ghost named Jesse. He is the first ghost who doesn’t ask for help to move on, because he doesn’t know where to go to and doesn’t want to leave because finally someone can and communicate him with. At her new school, The Junipero Serra Catholic Academy, (Suze doesn’t believe in any particular religion) Suze meets new people, CeeCee and Adam and they became instantly friends. She also meets Father Dominic, the principle and priest of the school, who is also a mediator and he needs her help with a ghost that isn’t ready to move on, but this ghost has revenge written all over and Suze happens to be in her way. This book is written in first person told in Suze's point of view. It takes place over the course of a few days. The writing style was different for me to read but I had to remind myself that I’m reading a sixteen-year old’s mind! The plot was interesting and kept me captivate during the entire read. I loved each and every character in this book. My only criticism is that in a matter of a day, Suze is very popular. I mean yes she did threaten a student to break her fingers and save one of the students, but I don’t think you can become popular that fast in real life. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it! I’m definitely looking forward reading this paranormal series! I’m giving this book a 3.5 stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this series I was always so jealous of suze and Jesse's relationship

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worth the read I enjoy this series, and Suze & Jesse's relationship... except for the fact that all of their relationship problems stem from Suze hiding things and not trusting him. A lot of plot points throughout the series wouldn't happen if she would just be honest with Jesse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of Meg Cabot's Best The Mediator Series (along with 1-800-Where-R-You) is my favourite Meg Cabot series. Even though Cabot is an adult, she perfectly captures the though processes of a 16 year old girl. And when I found out the Carmel and the Mission Basilica were real (and that Meg Cabot had actually lived there for a time) it has been #1 on my list of places I need to go. Suze Simon and Jesse DeSilva are a couple for the ages. First read when I was 12 years old, and still reread every year at 23. Meg Cabot knows her teen lit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great if you like YA suze simon is a great character to get behind. She's badass and never suffers from the whole 'main character is a dumbass when it comes to boys' thing. The characters are all interesting and loveable. The plot itself isn't that interesting but the later books really pick up speed and become amazing. The mediator series actually works more like a tv show because the plot of each book are largely contained to the particular book but there is still quite a bit of world building and overall plot development. Its an easy and fun read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from She sees dead people PLOT OR PREMISE: Susannah is a mediator, a la Sixth Sense, helping ghosts resolve their earthly problems so they can depart. She lived a life of adventure and school problems in New York, hung out with her visiting dead father's ghost, and got in trouble with the law. Then Mom married a guy from California and they moved in with the new family -- new stepdad and three new stepbrothers. And her first day of school? She finds out that her school's principal, a priest, is also a mediator. She's not alone! Ever! . WHAT I LIKED: The introduction of a character who gets to physically interact with ghosts is great, and the introduction of Susannah to the ghost Jesse who has been haunting her new bedroom for the last 150 years is actually funny. There are lots of humourous bits as she moves into the new school, and meets the resident bully -- a rejected popular girl who committed suicide over a boy, and now wants to exact revenge on him. . WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Some of the clichés used around the vengeful ghost are a bit much, and the constant injuries to various people while she skates uninjured is rather exaggerated. . DISCLOSURE: I received no compensation, not even a free copy, in exchange for this review. I am not personal friends with the author, nor do I follow her on social media.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and interesting read Overall the book has a good pace and doesn’t bog you down with too much information. There are interesting characters with room to grow and relationships to grow along with them. There’s banter and witty comments galore to keep you chuckling and begging for more. It is a cool plot, a teenage mediator who helps ghosts move on to the afterlife. This actually reminds me of the Buffy show. I also really like that some Spanish Conquest history has been thrown in. Sussannah is the protagonist of this story and a 16 year old teenager. I am going to call her Suze because I’m not her mother. Suze is witty, snarky and sarcastic and it is wonderful. Suze is one of those people that always has a comeback. Unlike me who’s like if someone says I’m gonna smack you my reply will be you try that. And then later I think I should’ve said you try that and I’ll smack you into next week and it’s only Monday! I also really like that Suze's propensity for violence; she can and does get physical with ghosts. Jesse is a Spanish guy/ghost dead 150 years. He hadn’t talked to anyone in awhile but he was still pretty snarky. I loved learning about his backstory and interested to learn more about it because we seem to know most of it but it also seems like there is more to the story. And the interaction between Jesse and Suze was great. They seem to compliment each other really well and push each other out of their comfort zones. And the banter between them makes the book. Meg Cabot really seems to have gotten into the mind of a teenage girl and she has so many great one liners and they especially hit a chord with me because they are things I thought of back when I was a teenager…… back with the dinosaurs. My favourite part of the book was Doc/Dave figuring out what Suze is and what she can do. At least Suze will have some family support whether she wants it or not. I didn’t quite understand how the title fits in- is it because Suze works in the shadows or is it where the ghosts go when they pass? But my main dislike in the book was that in the end to get rid of Heather, Suze had to do an exorcism. As Father Dominic points out that is not what they do as mediators. But I do understand that Heather was a threat that needed to be taken care of. But it still kind of feels like she failed. At least Suze has 5 more books to try again since there are 5 more books in the series! There are 6 books in the Mediator series: 1. Shadowland, 2. The Ninth Key, 3. Reunion, 4. Darkest Hour, 5. Haunted, 6. Twilight. So I give this book 4 out of 5 stars I recommend you read it! I plan to go find and buy the rest of the series now…. So catch you all later!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good But Feels like A Repeat. I thought the plot of this book was great. The characters were also really well done. There was alot of detail but I found that the ideas were not really new. Like It was a repeat of another author's book. I mean not really but the thing that she does and is could have been spiced up a little with new ideas. The begin was perfect for starting of the series. The ending was also good. But I found that the body of the book was too slow and the main part of the book started too late then ended too fast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Start to a Great Series! This is Meg Cabot's first book in the 'Mediator' Series, and to be honest, it was great! I loved it from the start, and it is just such a fun and easy read! Meg describes her characters well, has a nice plot, and it is throughout the whole book well paced and light! Overall, it is a very nice book, with sequels that follow (that I would definitely give 5 stars) and you don't really get bored of reading it! It had romance, action, mystery and any supernatural fan, or even someone looking for a nice read will surely enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it What a perfect way to start off a series. This is my first Meg Cabot book, and I couldn't put it down. It's about this girl named Suze and she's a mediator. Meaning she can speak to the dead, and if she can try's to help them cross over. She has just moved to California and finds out that a cute guy is haunting her bedroom, while theres a ghost at her school who is seeking revenge. This book is really entertaining, and has you hooked from the first page. I can already tell this is going to be an awesome series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing begging to a series ‘Shadowland’ has a combination of teenage drama, action and the paranormal. It is an easy read that you will immediately be hooked on. It is full of well written characters you can relate to and will fall in love with. It is always suspenseful, but leaves a lot hanging to be continued later on in the series. I would recommend it to anyone who loves action packed romance novels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I read another book by Meg Cabot before and when I saw this book I was thinking what books would be like if ghosts were involved. It surprised me, and it was really good :D Ghosts are still freaky, but this book was awesome. `Nuff said ;]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Funny My friend introduced me to these books, and they are extremely funny, well written, and are page turners. I laughed out loud so many times at this book. The characters are great and seem extremely real, which is one of the main reasons I enjoyed this book. Pick this book up, you will not be sorry.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Somewhat enjoyable, but far from a page-turner... This was an enjoyable read but it definatley was not a page-turner. The character development was not very deep and it was difficult to really get to know most of the other characters, other than the mane heroine, and I even found her a little annoying at times. It was an 'okay' way to spend a couple of hours but I don't think I will be getting any of the other books in the series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Series for Teens In the vein of "Sixth Sense" but hipped up for young adults, the Mediator series introduces Suze, a teen with the ability to see - and touch - spirits. "Shadowland" introduces us to Suze, her newly reconstituted family, and her move out to Sunny California - where she's absolutely out of her element. While the supernatural side of the story is a good one, and the mystery is interesting, Suze's tale is more about learning how to fit in, and is sure to strike a chord with teens. Her sass and sarcasm is likewise probably going to go far to endear her to her readers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ever! [insert happy fangirl squeal here] This was quiet possibly the best book series I've ever read! It was adorable, fast paced, exciting, and funny. I don't think any other book has ever hooked me as fast as the Mediator. I was probably willing to kill someone just to get my hands on the next book in the series, but thankfully I now have all of the series so no lives are in danger. But I suggest all people read this book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow. Okay. I'm just starting book five of this series. And... oh-my-god. I totally recommend you read these books. They are beyond marvelous. Absolutely awesome. They're descriptive, but not too descriptive to the point where it gets annoying to read. And they're funny, too. I love Suze's sarcasm. But yeah... I totally recommend you read these books. The author did an amazing job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved it!! I'm only 14 years old, and well yes I wouldn't say I'm the fastest reader.. or maybe I just haven't found a book that I could really just get into and keep reading to the last page. But I read this book in like 2 days and that never happens. But yeah, I was scared if I should be reading this at night, because of all the ghosts, ect... but this book is great and I've just started the second one right now. I definetely recommend this book to anyone who's into real suspence and some humour too!
