Bestselling novelist Margaret George brings to life the glittering kingdom of Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile, in this lush, sweeping, and richly detailed saga.

Told in Cleopatra's own voice, The Memoirs of Cleopatra is a mesmerizing tale of ambition, passion, and betrayal in the ancient Egyptian world, which begins when the twenty-year-old queen seeks out the most powerful man in the world, Julius Caesar, and does not end until, having survived the assassination of Caesar and the defeat of the second man she loves, Marc Antony, she plots her own death rather than be paraded in triumph through the streets of Rome.

Most of all, in its richness and authenticity, it is an irresistible story that reveals why Margaret George's work has been widely acclaimed as "the best kind of historical novel, one the reader can't wait to get lost in." (San Francisco Chronicle).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Absorbing novel To pick up a Margaret George novel is to experience a well-researched epic work. The Memoirs of Cleopatra is no exception. George presents a very intimate story of the legendary Cleopatra, who took a bankrupt, teetering country to its pinnacle of wealth, prosperity and influence, despite overwhelming setbacks and obstacles. My only quibble, as always with George's work, is a certain reservation in the depth of her characters which she tends to move around on the board of her story like set pieces. Beyond that, an absorbing read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful - Wonderful - A Must Read! I loved this book. Memoirs’ has a great story that’s full of details and passionate writing. I was able to feel how Cleopatra felt in her highest moments and lowest downfalls, and that just shows how good the writing truly is. I didn’t want this book to end, 1000+ pages just wasn’t enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible I have always loved studying ancient Egypt and Cleopatra has always been one of my favourite historical figures. This book was so amazing, it feels as though I truely know who Cleopatra was. I have reccomended this book to every one of my friends. After finishing this book, it was hard to say goodbye to her, to just put the book down. Everyone knows that Cleopatra dies by a snake bite, but it still felt as though I had lost a dear friend. This book seems so real to me, it's a wonder that Cleopatra didn't write the book herself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I got this book for Christmas last year and loved it! The author really brings you right into the story of Cleopatra going from being just a girl to a ruler. You end up feeling like you knew her. Margaret George is an amazing author, I've since bought 3 more of her books and am beginning to read Helen of Troy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WAY 2 MARGARET GEORGE! Being a fan of the story and life of cleopatra I have read several pieces of work on her, but this is by far the most well-researched, emotional, thrilling and enjoyable read! This is my favourite all time book which I have read several times. I whisked through the book despite the size due to the fact that it was so fast paced. The novel is extremely historically accurate showing her life from start to finish and is detailed in great depth. The Memoirs of Cleopatra will make you laugh, cry and will keep you turning the page. This is a definate must read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful storyteller Just for the heck of it I thought that I would try reading this book, and am I ever glad that I did. Not only was it easy to be transported into Cleopatras life, I learned things that I never knew had happened to this Queen. I am really looking forward to reading Mary Queen of Scots and the Autobiography of Henry the 8th. Thankyou to the author for such wonderful writing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Book I've Ever Read I may have only been 13 when I read this book, but it was the most amazing piece of litterature I have ever read. I was reluctant to start the book because of the length, but I could never put it down. I was reading it late at night, in the car, even in class. George has an amazing imagination. What I liked the most about this book is the feeling that the Queen of Egypt is telling you here life's story until her last breath!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Book I've Ever Read I absolutely love this book. At first I thought it would take forever to get through, but once you start reading you can't put it down. I don't, however, recommend watching the movie based on this book as you can't even compare the details and the movie seems to throw the timing way off. One of the best parts of this book is that it's written as though Cleopatra is telling you the story herself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Memoirs of Cleopatra An excellent read for those who enjoy history based stories. The author takes some liberties with the tale of the life of Cleopatra, but this is easily overlooked as the story she weaves is both enchanting and fascinating. After reading this book I will definately be purchasing more of George's literary works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Memoirs of Cleopatra A wonderful novel by one of my favorite authors. A lot of people are probably scared off by the length of George's books, which is a shame because she is so skilled at transporting you to another time and place that you become lost in the book and don't notice how rapidly the pages turn. This book shows Cleopatra to be a wonderful young woman, certainly with faults, but a heroine none the less.
