Rated 1 out of 5 by from Borrow this book! It's not worth the $60 I convinced my parents to pay for it [6 years ago]. I remember throwing childish fit in the bookstore when I was about 16 for this book. I skimmed thru it and that was that. I re-read it a week ago after cleaning my room, tried a few recipes and was NOT impressed. The food recipes were terrible, the beverages weren't up to snuff [I gave them to some friends for opinions and they disliked it so much]. They should have the title changed to "The Busy Business Woman's Guide to 'Life' ". Nothing in that book appealed to me, partly because of the way it was written but also because I don't have those "finanial" responsibilities. A passages I did find SOMEWHAT useful was thhat a Maid of honour should make an emergency kit [tampons, makeup, makeup remover, etc] for the bride incase anything goes awry during the wedding. And giving me the basics of how to play poker. Granted it wasn't helpful helpful, but my than boyfriend noticed I was trying to learn the game for him and he wound up teaching me how to play. My college gave me a booklet while I was upgrading my skills of how to make a resumé, write proper letters and act during an interview. They covered everything. Jane's book did not. It was very and slightly too formal [for a business person]. Girls guide to life, hardly. Girls do not drink alcohol and have sex; women do. For a person who doesn't read the book before purchasing it; they'll be a little stunned by the little nipettes of sex talk [if the book was purchased for a girl]. I expected more from a book that was so expensive at the time and hyped alot. Everything could have been expanded upon alot better and more informative as well. Jane should have consulted people who specialized in different fields to give her better and more correct advice. If you're a busy social butterfly than this book, I suppose, is for you and your busy life style. I wouldn't waste my time on it. Go online to different websites and test recipes for yourself than your friends. Or find and consider all forms of advice on a topic. Goto your local library and borrow this book. If you're feeling cocky, than go onto a book trading website or ebay and get it for nothing/cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Covers all the essentials This is a great book to cover the basics- detailed enough without getting too in depth with any given topic. The book was great for going over things that somehow modern day females missed out on in their development- things as basic as cooking and cleaning, entertaining, modern day etiquette- personal and professional, organization, finances, changing tires and how to pick the perfect gift for the appropriate occasion- to name a few... things you 'should' know but always seem a little hazy on and almost too embarrassed to ask anybody about!
