From Our Editors

Gabriele de Campo is in love with the beautiful noblewoman Donna Donatella. However, this love remains unfulfilled, because in 19th-century Venice, a peasant like de Campo cannot associate with a noblewoman. While in prison, de Campo befriends nobleman Colonel Giovanni Vitelli, who begins educating de Campo. After leaving prison, de Campo makes his fortune as a gambler and begins constructing a palace of his dreams. In The Palace, de Campo begins a long and obsessive journey to have Donatella join him and make his dreams come true.
