Not your Disney princess
I loved this book growing up. It was so empowering to see the leading lady for once not portrayed as the damsel in distress rescued by her prince. Instead she's a somewhat Spoiled (in the beginning) witty, strong arch type who sends a great message "love yourself and appearance isn't everything". Something most young girls need to hear nowadays. Plus you've got a dragon... need I say more?

Classic that deserves a place on any little ones book shelf
While the princess is definitely the protagonist in this book (and for once not a damsel in distress), it teaches both young girls and boys that both sexes can be heroic and manners are more important than any material object. A great Munsch book.

Wish the online store will provide the dimensions of the books.
I love the story but be aware the Robert Munsch paperback books priced at $1.99 - $3.00 are about the size of the palm of your hand.

Childhood favourite
As a child this was one of my favourite books. Munsch does an incredible job in capturing the attention through unique story plots as well as fantastic illustrations. (Not sure if Munsch does the illustrations or if someone else draws but to whoever - good job!!!)

One of the best Munsch stories.
A classic, I remember just how much I loved this story when I was little and I can't wait to share this with my own kid. It's definitely a classic.

Amazing
Great book to read to young children to teach them that girls can be heroes too, as well as the fact that they don't always need to wear a dress to be a princess.

Best Munsch
This is still my favourite of all Robert Munsch's books. The strong female character who doesn't need a man was a storyline way ahead of its time.

Amazing Book for Young Girls
I LOVE this book! Not only is a classic, and by the amazing Canadian author Munsch, but this book is a great story about a young girl, who doesn't accept that she has to look pretty for a prince, and who does not accept that a prince has to save her. She wears what she wants, and she fights for herself and she saves herself! This is a great book to show children the value of being independent, and doing what is best for you, and not wanting to impress other people.

LOVE
Classic, but I prefer this for my little girl over the princess stories. Girls can outsmart dragons and see through the veneer of "princes." Love.

great encouragement for little girls
This story has a female main character children will love. The princess is supposed to marry a prince, and they both are very particular about how they dress. When a dragon comes and burns down the castle and all the princess owns - even her wardrobe - and carries off the prince, the princess decides immediately she has to rescue him. All she can find to wear is a large paper bag.
She finds the dragon, outsmarts him and rescues the prince. This is especially encouraging for little girls so they can see they are just as brave and smart as boys.
The ending is funny, and shows how appearances can mean too much - in more than one way.

Excellent
This is a great book for girls but boys should read it too. Basically, I think any child can learn not to be an ingrate and not to put up with other people's bad attitude.

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch, Michael Martchenko
I have been reading most of Robert Munsch’s books ever since I was a child and I have enjoyed most of his work! I have recently re-read a book and I had enjoyed during my childhood called “The Paper Bag Princess” and it is about how a princess is stripped down to wearing a plain paper bag when a dragon attacks her castle and she has to go rescue Prince Ronald, who has been kidnapped by the dragon. “The Paper Bag Princess” is definitely one of Robert Munsch’s most hilarious books ever written! I'm not a raging feminist, but I am a huge believer in a girl knowing that she can rescue herself and anyone else who needs it - if they want her help. This book reinforces how to be resourceful, have confidence, and know when to walk away.

Great addition to any collection
This book is a great collection to any reader's collection, though more importantly with children. It changes the conversation and presents a female "hero" rather than a damsel in distress. Though, I do believe belittling the male character is not a great example, I praise it for pitching a new view on "princess" stories.
