about

FromNew York Timesbestselling author Elin Hilderbrand, comes a novel about the many ways family can fill our lives with love...if they don't kill us first.

*New York Timesbestseller*

It's Nantucket wedding season, also known as summer-the sight of a bride racing down Main Street is as common as the sun setting at Madaket Beach. The Otis-Winbury wedding promises to be an event to remember: the groom's wealthy parents have spared no expense to host a lavish ceremony at their oceanfront estate.
But it's going to be memorable for all the wrong reasons after tragedy strikes: a body is discovered in Nantucket Harbor just hours before the ceremony-and everyone in the wedding party is suddenly a suspect. As Chief of Police Ed Kapenash interviews the bride, the groom, the groom's famous mystery-novelist mother, and even a member of his own family, he discovers that every wedding is a minefield-and no couple is perfect. Featuring beloved characters fromThe Castaways,Beautiful Day, andA Summer Affair,The Perfect Coupleproves once again that Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of the summer beach read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soap opera mystery on paper I really enjoyed this book. The story is told from various character points of view. It also jumps back and forth between past events and present time without leaving the reader lost. I liked the characters and found myself wondering "who done it"!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A perfect piece of women's literature Hilderbrand weaves a story which encompasses the concept that what we show to the outside world may not be a full reflection of who we are. While trying to uncover the truth about a young woman's death, the detectives on the case uncover the truth behind the relationships that exist within the families of both the bride and the groom. These relationships reflect so many of the relationships that we see around us in our daily lives. I enjoyed how I was slowly introduced to the complexities of the relationships within the story: the relationship between a man and his wife, between mother and daughter, mother and children, between two women who are close friends. I did feel empathy for the protagonist and understood on some level how easy it was for her to land in the situation she was in. There were times though when I could not understand why she had let the situation go so far. The Perfect Couple is a good example of women's literature. It is a well-written story that embodies the choices women have to make to create a positive and happy future for themselves. I enjoyed this read and am sure to pick up another of Elin Hilderbrand's novels.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little too slow While I've enjoyed most of Hilderbrands work, this one started off a little too slow for me. If you can get through the first bit - it gets better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this! Once you read the first words in this novel, you will be hooked! Greer, her husband Tag are giving their son Benji and his fiancé Celeste the wedding of their dreams at the family retreat on Nantucket Island. Celeste is over whelmed with all the festivities that her stutter reappears, only with Benji though! This book is filled with other wonderful characters, Bruce and Karen Celeste's parents (Karen is dying which is why Greer and Tag are giving the wedding), Merritt the best friend and maid of honor, Thomas and his wife Abby (the groom's brother and wife) and Shooter the best man. When Merritt is found on the wedding day morning by the bride, drowned in the ocean well that just opens a pandora's box better left closed! Who did it? who had the most to lose or gain if Merritt was out of the picture? A page turner for sure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow Have read Elin Hilderbrand before and have enjoyed her books. This one was very slow and hard to get into.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little slow at first but it gets better! I thought this was going to be another cheesy romance novel but it wasn't as bad as I thought!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good read This was my first book by Hilderbrand, and even though it took me a while to read, overall I like it. I found the star of the book slow but when you get into the story you won´t want to put it down. This book shows you that every family has a secret, especially the ones with money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I Don't Understand What the Hype Is I've heard that this is a great author, I read this book in addition to another one and found them to be boring. Plot is mediocre at best.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Juicy read A wedding, a murder, pregnancies and affairs galore. What more could you want in a book? The Perfect Couple was juicy, easy to read and hard to put down. I would have liked a little more closure to the story. However, I found myself absorbed by the writing and eager to turn the page.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great author, but this one lacking Lots of mystery and questions, but lacking in development and an atrociously disappointing ending. What happened?! The book left far too many unanswered questions. I really like the author's books, but this one left me disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from First Time Hilderbrand Reader I absolutely loved the setting and the beautiful summer feels that this novel created. It made me want to jump on a plane to Nantucket. I was enthralled by the multiple story lines until the last quarter of the book. I really wanted more of an ending, there was so much build up and it left some unanswered questions for me. Hopefully she will follow-up with another book and continue the stories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great read with a twist It is great when you find an author you enjoy; greater still when the author doesn't stagnate. New approach. Wonderful development. Couldn't put it down. Lots of surprises!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Underdeveloped If you love Hilderbrand like I do, you are likely very excited to pick this book up! Don't get your hopes up. This book lacks the beautiful depth that Hildrebrand normally builds in her characters. Mysteries are not her strong suit. This story still has the summer airy feeling perfect to read on the beach but its predicable and boring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a good summer read "The Perfect Couple" deals with the relationship of a young couple from very different backgrounds; the story goes back and forth with some history of their relationship and the weekend of their planned wedding on Nantucket. The sudden death of the bride's best friend and maid of honour complicates things and forces an evaluation of the couple's feelings for one another as well as the behaviour of others in their circle. A good summer read!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just not quite there.....and lukewarm ending I have read all of Elin Hidlerbrands books. This one for me just fell flat. It never really seemed to get off the ground. I wanted to really like it. I buy all her books the day they come out. Unfortunately this is my least favourite off all her novels. I especially disliked the ending. It felt like she didn't quite know how to bring the book to conclusion. Not her usual style. Something definately missing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but missing some magical elements to make it great Thank you to Edelweiss, Little, Brown and Company and Elin Hilderbrand for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Is anyone really the perfect couple? Well it seems like Celeste and Benji are the closest thing to it as they come. Everyone around them are so envious of how perfect they are, so in love. Celeste is a down to earth girl who values the important things in life and Benji is the rich, desirable bachelor whose heart Celeste has captured. Celeste is very close to her parents, Karen and Bruce, especially now that her mother is dying of cancer but has always had a hard time making friends. She didn’t grow up with money and has always had to watch her pennies. She is head of the zoo, preferring the company of animals over humans, with the exception of Merritt, her coworker and best friend. Benji is the polar opposite. He is sophisticated, knowledgable about fine wines and exotic dining experiences and the kind of rich that gives him access to anything his heart desires. He always had a party to go to, or some exclusive, flashy event, but now, he prefers to just spend time with Celeste, introduce her to the finer things in life and take care and protect her. Benji’s mom Greer is a famous author and his dad Tag has been having an affair with Merritt. On the morning of Benji and Celeste’s wedding, Merritt turns up dead on the beach. Who could have wanted her dead? Did Greer find out about her husband’s infidelity? What were Tag and Merritt fighting about that night? Why was Celeste’s overnight bag fully packed and at the front door the night before her wedding? These families have many secrets and only once they are revealed will we know why Merritt died that night. Well, unfortunately, I couldn’t give a perfect score to this novel. I have read and enjoyed many of Hilderbrand’s novels before and was really looking forward to this one. They are usually a light read, perfect for summer and this one showed a lot of promise. What I love about Hilderbrand’s books is that the setting is always integral to the story, almost like an additional character. In this one Nantucket is the backdrop and I was left wanting more. I wanted to be swept away and I felt like I only got a taste of the island’s life. The characters were well drawn and at first I was invested in what was happening, but as the book progressed I just didn’t care about them any more. Like a pretty girl with little personality you date her but when it stops you are not that broken up about it. I made it to the end because it was an easy read and yeah, I wanted to know what happened. In this story every character has a secret. Main character, side character, I mean I was waiting for the dog to have a secret. So many of them weren’t even relevant to the story. What was the point? It didn’t enhance the mystery, there was no build up only to reveal that secret didn’t lead you to the answer. There has to be a craft to the story to make it super exciting and extra special. So, a solid three star - readable but I wanted more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compelling, mysterious, and deliciously entertaining! The Perfect Couple takes us to the beautiful island of Nantucket and into the lives of the rich and famous Winburys as they gather to celebrate a family wedding. But like most families with privilege, power, and money everything is not always as it seems and it quickly becomes apparent that behind the beautiful mansion and designer clothes is an abundance of secrets, deception, betrayal, infidelity, substance abuse, lies, scandals, and murder. The writing is effortless and fluid. The characterization is spot on with a cast of characters that are flawed, authentic, and fun. And the alluring plot is an intelligent, lighthearted mix of a breezy summer read, unpredictable whodunit, and domestic drama all rolled up in one. Overall, The Perfect Couple is an enjoyable, scintillating treat by Hilderbrand that once again highlights her incredible ability to delve into all the complex dynamics between family members and friends and is without a doubt a must read for 2018!
