Rated 2 out of 5 by from To the Donation Pile Sadly it did not meet my expectations. Just held my interest long enough to finish it, but it was so predictable. Moving on to the next book!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good psychological thriller This was a very easy and quick read for me that kept me hooked. Some aspects of the plot were very far-fetched but aside from that, this book makes you question the people you think you know and to think twice about trusting anyone!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the greatest recommendation.. I bought this book because it's showed up on a few recommendations and had good reviews. Agree with last review by Melanie... felt like a waste of money. Writing isn't bad, easy enough to read. Some interesting perspectives into the mind of a sociopath. But I also thought it was overall, boring and predictable. I kept reading, thinking the story would further develop but it didn't... at all. By the time I finished, I actually had to ask... so what was the point of this novel? It wasn't really an ending... it was like... a long blog. Not sure what the "story" was...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a ride!! I loved this book. The main character in this book is completely off the rails and at times some of the things she does seem to be completely over the top. However, I couldn't put it down and finished it in 2 days. I highly recommend if you're looking for a quick entertaining read. You also learn some interesting bits about the airline industry as the author was formerly a flight attendant.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don’t waste your money. I know I don’t share the same opinion as everyone else about this book but I find every time I buy a chapters ‘book of the month’ it’s a huge let down. This book was boring, predictable, and not the ‘so addictive it should come with a warning’ read I was promised. I kinky gave it two stars because I was able to finish it. The entire time I thought the next chapter would be the one where I understand what all the rave about the book was about. But it didn’t happen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For psychological suspense fans My reading kind of dropped off over the holidays. The TBR pile is teetering, but I've seen so many teasers about Karen Hamilton's debut novel, The Perfect Girlfriend, that I decided to jump it to the front of the queue. And I pretty much finished it in a day..... Let me introduce you to Juliette.... "Waiting. That's what I do, a lot of waiting. And thinking...." She's thinking (obsessively) about her ex boyfriend Nate. "I hope he appreciates the lengths I've gone to, just to save us - everything will fall into place." What has she done? Taken a job that puts her into Nate's world. And Nate is not the only one in her sights. "Revenge is a dish best served cold, and mine is going to be frozen." Oh my gosh, Juliette's thinking is so...so...off. She has a long term plan that will get her what she wants and in her eyes, what she deserves. And the path she maps to that end is frightening. Just when I thought Juliette couldn't possibly do any else, she does. I applaud Hamilton's plotting. I adore not being able to predict where a story is going to go. And with Juliette, there was no predicting. What a character! There were also two twists that I didn't anticipate and that I thought were quite clever. I leave you with one last piece of advice from Juliette... "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they're yours. If they don't, make them." Karen herself worked for many years as a flight attendant and her descriptions and settings reflect that. I'm hoping Juliette isn't drawn from reality! Psychological suspense fans, put this one on your list for sure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looking for the first big read of 2019? In the spirit of Woman in the Window, Woman in Cabin 10, and Girl on the Train, The Perfect Girlfriend is the great psychological thriller of this year. Juliette is in love. Spurned by her boyfriend who has broken up with her, and scarred by events in her past, she will do anything to make things right to fix her relationship. She creates a new persona and starts a career as a flight attendant for the same airline that her ex-boyfriend is a pilot for. Juliette’s twisted journey to win back her boyfriend escalates from there and left me wondering what could possibly be next? Then I read what came next. And then what came after that. Then everything else that Juliette planned to ensure her happily-ever-after. A must read to start your year!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Scarily Good Addictive Read After reading the last sentence of the novel, I could only say 'Wow!' This page turner is scarily good and keeps the reader invested in the story right until the last page. Juliette encapsulates everything one would expect of a stalker and of a person determined to get what she wants. I could not believe the lengths she would go to to get what she wants. One of the things I loved about this book was the unexpected turns the novel takes. If this were a movie, I would be biting my nails! I raced through this addictive read in a day - I just could not put it down! The main character is terrifying, and I would not want to meet her at my workplace or even in a social environment. Hamilton has impressed me with her debut novel and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Psychological Thriller I received an ARC of "The Perfect Girlfriend" through Harper Collins Canada and Indigo.Thank you for the opportunity to read this amazing psychological thriller! A quote from the book "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they’re yours. If they don’t, make them." This sums up the premise of this book. Elizabeth/Lily/Juliette is obsessed with her ex-boyfriend and she will stop at nothing (I mean, NOTHING!) to get him back. The whole book is told through her thoughts. She is devious, conniving and scheming. She has devised a POA (plan of attack) that she works through step by step always with the goal of living happily ever after with Nate. She is unbelievably unscrupulous and resourceful. There were times that I did not want to be in her mind - she was THAT scary. If I have any question about the book, it is the ending, just not what I expected. I think this book would make an excellent Book Club choice to discuss the ending and also to discuss the vulnerabilities of social media. We have an innate trust that our fellow human beings will act in a certain manner and when they don't, it makes for a great book plot. Congratulations to Karen Hamilton for her excellent storytelling skills and on her debut novel which has been picked by Indigo as their Staff Pick of the Month for January 2019. Give this one a try - you will not be disappointed.
