PLANETARY has been hailed as a timeless story that turned modern superhero conventions on their heads.Written by Warren Ellis (TRANSMETROPOLITAN) and with stunning art by John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men), this critically acclaimed, landmark series took a look at the inter-dimensional peace-keeping force known as Planetary. The trio on the ground includes Elijah Snow, a hundred-year-old man, Jakita Wagner, an extremely powerful woman, and The Drummer, a man with the ability to communicate with machines. Tasked with tracking down evidence of super-human activity, these mystery archaeologists uncover unknown paranormal secrets and histories, such as a World War II supercomputer that can access other universes, a ghostly spirit of vengeance, and a lost island of dying monsters.

All 27 issues of the original series are collected in this hardbound omnibus edition.
Warren Ellis is a prolific writer whose works include the novel Crooked Little Vein (William Morrow) and, for Marvel Comics, Iron Man, Nextwave, Newuniversal and many others. His work for DC Comics includes PLANETARY, RED, STORMWATCH, OCEAN, GLOBAL FREQUENCY, HELLBLAZER, and a five-year run on TRANSMETROPOLITAN.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great series all in one These omnibus editions are great, especially when it's for such an amazing series like Planetary. If you're a fan of Warren Ellis and interested in the series then just buy this version instead of the individual volumes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great and refreshing Ellis always comes correct - story is amazing and unique, and the art is done by the same artist who did Astonishing X-men (meaning it is also fantastic).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ellis' Masterpiece An astonishing, intensely inventive, beautifully rendered adventure. Planetary is an uncanny, dark-mirror universe of familiar pulp heroes, comic books, monsters, and mythology artfully mashed up into an "archaeology of the impossible" that deserves to be excavated. Fair warning, the story holds up well on it's own, but for the reader familiar with 20th Century pop and pulp culture, this is near bottomless well of riches. Possibly one the greatest comics of the last 25 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book This is one of the best comic series I've ever read and I am a big time reader. The pacing, characters, art, everything adds up brilliantly over the entire run. But, surprisingly lots of issues can be read as done in one stories and work that way as well. This book is also a great value as you get a ton of content for the price. Can't recommend enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Planetary is an original comic that functions as a collection of homages to other comics of the past. So if you're a new reader to comic books, then some of the brilliance of Planetary may go over your head. However, if you've spent enough time around comics then this is a fantastic collection that needs to be on your shelf.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't recommend enough iPad high hopes for this omnibus but was blown away. It starts out with single issues stories that build into the larger narrative, and it delivers an epic tale by the end. I cared about all the characters, villians included, and my only complaint is the story is complete with this volume so you can't read any more of this groups adventures. John Cassidy's art work is incredible too and among his best along with astonishing X-men.
