about

The first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot.

Mia Thermopolis is pretty sure there’s nothing worse than being a five-foot-nine, flat-chested freshman, who also happens to be flunking Algebra. Is she ever in for a surprise.

First Mom announces that she’s dating Mia’s Algebra teacher. Then Dad has to go and reveal that he is the crown prince of Genovia. And guess who still doesn’t have a date for the Cultural Diversity Dance?

The Princess Diaries is the first book in the beloved, bestselling series that inspired the feature film starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. Beautifully repackaged in paperback, this title will appeal to new readers as well as fans looking to update their collection.

Meg Cabot was born in Bloomington, Indiana. In addition to her adult contemporary fiction, she is the author of the bestselling young adult fiction series The Princess Diaries. She lives in Key West, Florida, with her husband.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great I read this book because of the movie but the movie was only about 1/3 of the book! #plumreviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved the series This book was not a disappointment. This was fun and easy to read. Read it many years ago when it first came out and I still pick it up now after 10 years and can reread it. I do hope that Meg Cabot continues with the series for the adult fans.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Princess Diaries Although cute, it lacks the sweetness and naïveté of the movie version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Cute I've been meaning to give this book a read for a while, as I'm a fan of the movie. The first thing I can say is that the book is vastly different in details, while still being the same at the core. It's definitely not complex by any means, but it is a very light and fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed Mia's commentary, and can remember feeling a lot of the same things when I was that age, and the author managed to get a very realistic teenager tone. I will be giving the other books in the series a look, and recommend this if you want something fun, light, and a little frivolous. Advanced readers take note: I read the entire thing in several hours over one night, so don't expect a read that will sustain you for any length of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Princess Mia The ultimate light, fun (yet enjoyably quirky) read! I have probably read the whole series 5 times through! It is always fun to watch Mia grow as a person through her hilarious narrative!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Princess diaries This book was amazing it doesn't take very long to read it either; it took me one school year to read it twice (15 mins everyday) .As for the quality it was different than the movie , which i have seen before i read the book. I found the book better than the movie because the movie the book had more detail than a hour & a half movie were they had a budget. I really recomend this book. I do have to admit i skipped a couple of pages because i found it wasnt intresting but still a very good book to read. I love this story line :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute, Modern Fairy Tale!!!!!!!! The Princess Diaries' cover made me even wanna read it!! It was a great, quirky read that made me laugh throughout the story. I thought Mia was a little too self centered and kinda dumb, but the storyline/plot was great. It was a fun book that left me wanting more. I wannabe to read the next one for sure!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delightful, quirky and fun Mini Review: One of the most delightful tween/YA books I have ever read. Mia is so adorable and real you just can't help but fall in love with her. I absolutely love the way Cabot writes her dialogue and it often reminds me of something that would come out of Whedon. (a true compliment). Mia is a true delight and she made me snort out loud with her outrageous comments and her truly kooky family. Cabot truly has a gift for writing loveable quirky characters. Loved all the Star Trek references which appealed to my inner nerd. If I was doing my usual full review I would have a hell of a time choosing only 3 of my favorite passages, as there were so many. Nice morals of being true to yourself, the importance of compassion and integrity without being all preachy and in your face - love you Cabot! This one is perfect for tweens, teens and adults who remember the awkwardness of being a teen. Just do yourself a favor and pick this one up. "When I walked in, he folded the paper all carefully, put it down, and gave me this long, intent look, like Captain Picard right before he starts going on to Riker about the Prime Directive." Pg 63 5 Dewey's I bought this at the Meg Cabot signing at Chapters Queensway because Terri suggested I buy it -- Thanks Terri!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Read I read this series when the movie was first coming out and quickly caught up on the series. Then there was a period when I was waiting for another book and i just sort of lost track of them. I will probably catch up on them soon now that the series is done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it I actually really liked this book, it was surprisingly more real then i had expected ( i was on the lookout for the disney version), although it was still a fun read. And sometimes, you just have to read for fun.
