After their adventures on the high seas, Locke and Jean are brought back to earth with a thump. Jean is mourning the loss of his lover and Locke must live with the fallout of crossing the all-powerful magical assassins the Bonds Magi.

It is a fall-out that will pit both men against Locke's own long lost love. Sabetha is Locke's childhood sweetheart, the love of Locke's life and now it is time for them to meet again. Employed on different sides of a vicious dispute between factions of the Bonds Sabetha has just one goal - to destroy Locke for ever.

The Gentleman Bastard sequence has become a literary sensation in fantasy circles and now, with the third book, Scott Lynch is set to seal that success.
Scott Lynch was born in 1978 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and currently lives in Wisconsin. In addition to being a freelance writer for various role-playing game companies he has done all the usual jobs writers put in their bios: dishwasher, waiter, web designer, marketing writer, office manager and short-order cook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A worthy sequel After Red Seas Under Red Skies I couldn't wait for the next chapter in the series, and Republic of Thieves didn't disappoint. I read it in record time!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Missing something.... I loved the first two books of this series. This one though.. seems a bit out of place. Don't get me wrong, I loved this book. The story was interesting and I love the way the author writes, but it seemed to fall a little flat compared to the other novels. The author finally introduced Sabetha and I just wasn't able to fall in love with her character as much as I did with Locke, Jean and the twins. I am excited to see how their adventures continue in the next book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great read I don't know why people are upset. The writing is just as good, the story is amazing and the characters pop. I love this series. I would recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gentleman Bastards I really love this series. Loved all of the Sabetha flashbacks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sabetha! I loved finally getting to meet Sabetha after such build up in the previous books, and reading about Locke and Jean's adventures in an unstable political climate. The mystery surrounding the origins of Locke's world keep getting more complex, and the plot surrounding the bondsmagi continues to baffle and delight. A sequel that may even be better than the previous books.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It was an interesting read Although it wasn't my favourite book in the series, it was still a good read. There was a lot of build up to Sabetha's character in the previous novels so I don't think she could ever really live up to anyone's expectations. I thought Scott Lynch did the best he could despite the impossible task of creating believable mysterious love that Locke could moon after for two novels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Republic of thieves Great ending I think. Our intrepid dou finally runs into a mastermind who if not guessed when she is supposed to show up Sabetha, they are pitted agenst each other by our friendly magicians

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Written by a man While Scott Lynch writes an excellent snarky pair of male gay thieves, he completely misses the mark with Sabetha, who is a one-dimensional recreation of whichever poor real-life redhead the author is obviously obssesed with.
