The techniques are smart, simple and effective. Contact with Jill Miller's work and a set of rubber balls completely changed my life - erasing years of chronic, debilitating low back pain. The techniques outlined in the Roll Model made lasting change in my body when nothing else (massage, chiro, traditional medicine, acupuncture, etc.) worked. In fact, I now teach the Roll Model Method. Because the results in my own life and in my body were so positive and profound I just want to share this work with everyone. The techniques revealed in the Roll Model taught me how to feel myself and how to heal myself. It has done the same for countless others, and it can do the same for you. In addition to being a 'how to' manual for self-massage, this book is full of moving personal accounts of how the Roll Model tools have helped people to overcome mental, physical and emotional trauma. Until that time, you "knead" to pick up a copy of this book, and a pair of Roll Model® Therapy Balls and start massaging away your body blind spots. Using Jill's method you will not only take care of pain you may already be feeling, but find other areas of your body that have issues in the tissues that maybe haven't flared up in pain yet... but they will if left untreated. The combination of the Roll Model® Method and quality daily movements in your life (take a Yoga Tune Up® class to help you with healthy movement) will be life changing. I have bought many yoga and fitness related books over the years, but none have been this detailed without feeling like a textbook. There is a plethora of pictures to guide you through the anatomy of what you're doing, but also action shots of Jill using the Therapy Balls, so you understand the placement and techniques. This book clearly took a lot of planning, and it's evident a great amount of care was given to make sure the reader would be successful in using this method. Jill has woven stories of her students and their success using her methods, you'll be amazed at what is accomplished with two rubber balls in a tote! When you read Jill's personal story in the Soul Rolling section of the book, have a tissue handy, it makes you feel all the feels. All of the stories help to really demonstrate why we all need this kind of therapy in our lives, and hopefully motivate you, the reader to get into the habit of rolling regularly to see those, sometimes miraculous, benefits in your body. I had no idea how much I needed Yoga Tune Up? until years of abuse on my body over the years in the form of weight training, mindless cardio, and fad fitness classes resulted in a plethora of niggling injuries that left me disgruntled and in pain. I walked into a class with an acute shoulder injury and my life was transformed in the span of a 75 minute class. What should have required surgery required only "general maintenance". But don't take my word for it: Jill Miller has woven in heartfelt success stories throughout this book outlining how the Roll Model? method has transformed lives. As a registered occupational therapist, I know firsthand the value of preventative medicine, and if there was any "how to" manual to adhere to, this is it!!!!! It is written intelligently, and is accessible to anyone, whether they are living with pain or without. It breaks down the human body (YOUR body) into digestible bites that keep your mind active long after you have put the book down. That is the magic of the Roll Model? method: it is transformative not only in its immediacy, but as you go about your day, you will have a series of aha! moments that will help you identify your blind spots to live better in your skin, muscles, and systems. To become close intimate friends with your body rather than a mere acquaintance. Some previous reviewers have scoffed at purchasing the balls.
