A New York Times bestselling dark epic fantasy inspired by the tale of Snow White, from C. J. Redwine, the author of the Defiance series. This breathtakingly romantic, action-packed fantasy is perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and Cinder.

Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission: kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father. To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic. She’ll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.

In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol’s father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly given the responsibility of saving his kingdom. To do that, Kol needs magic of his own—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman—and bring her Lorelai’s heart.

But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected—beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable—and despite dark magic, Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king. Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman—who she likes far more than she should—Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen. But Irina isn’t going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.

C.J. Redwine is a young adult fantasy writer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good read overall It's been a while since I've read a book I liked. Man, the two main characters are so cute together, and the book is definitely not lacking in action. This is one of those books where I enjoy the beginning-middle of the book more than near the end. I thought it started off pretty well; does take a while to get into it, but by the time I reached the middle, I was totally into the story. Now, near the latter half of the story, the plot does slow down, which is why I couldn't give this 5 stars. It really takes a while to reach the climax and from there, the story dies down really quickly. Feel like the author could've expanded on the ending, or even told us a little more on how the characters end up after.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I did like the book but I thought the ending as a bit of a letdown. All this excitement and the queen dies so easily? Thought it would be better than that. It is still an ok read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too Young This was an alright re-telling, but I feel it was aimed at a much younger audience then what it is marketed for. I wouldn't call it YA, more middle grade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must read If you like fairy tale re-tellings, this is the book for you! It follows Lorelai, who is a princess and a kickass warriour, Kol who is a dragon king and Irina, Lorelai's evil stepmother. This book was amazing! It put such a different look on snow white, that I fell in love with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I just finished this book and I LOVED it. I always enjoy fairy tale retellings but the author really went further than that. Yes the inspiration for the story does come from Snow White but that is it. The author created a beautiful new world where dragons and magic fill the story. The main characters are well developped and the story flows. Honestly I would not mind a sequel although the author wrapped the story perfectly. If you like fantasy stories and fairy tales, you will like this one. Plus, this is a stand alone so once you are finished, you don't have to worry about any sequels.
