about

Delve into the details of all things Shadowhunter with this illustrated guide to the knowledge and lore of the Shadowhunter world.

Since the thirteenth century, the Shadowhunter’s Codex has been the one and only manual for Shadowhunters looking to brush up on their demon languages, learn proper stele use, and discover just what exactly a pyxis is. Featured in both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, this guide is a necessity for any young Nephilim on their journey to becoming a Shadowhunter. Beautifully illustrated, the Codex contains images of the famous Shadowhunter homeland of Idris, as well as depictions of demons and other Downworlders.

But this isn’t just any copy of The Shadowhunter’s Codex. It’s Clary’s copy, and as an artist herself, she’s sketched pictures of her friends and family in the book, and scrawled helpful advice in the margins. Of course, she couldn’t exactly stop Jace or Simon from adding their thoughts either. Part encyclopedia, part history, part training manual—complete with commentary from Shadowhunters who have seen it all—this beautiful guide is a perfect supplement to the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
Cassandra Clare was born in Teheran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family. After college, she lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines. She started working on The Mortal Instruments series in 2004 and became a full-time author in 2006. Her first novel, Ci...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Informative with funny side banter I bought this after I finished reading the Infernal Devices and I'm glad I did. It has a lot of background information about the Shadowhunters world that helps you understand the novels better. The artwork on the inside of the front and back covers is stunning, and the illustrations throughout are very pretty. Although I haven't read the Mortal Instruments, I enjoyed Clary, Simon, and Jace's notes and the added humour of the back-and-forth between them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! This book is great for anyone who is a fan of the Mortal Instruments universe. It has drawings and notes about the work of shadowhunters. I loved the "notes" written by Jace, Clary and Simon that gave it a real "textbook" kind of feel (we all know kids write in their textbooks lol). A great read!!.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very informative If you are a big fan then buy this. Otherwise it can seem tedious and boring. I enjoyed the written notes by the shadow hunters, they made me laugh quite a bit. Also good as a book of reference while reading the series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4.3 Stars! Everything you ever wanted to know about Shadowhunters and Downworlders all in one textbook like novel. The best part was that there were some hilarious narratives from Clary, Simon, and Jace while they were reading the codex. Filled with beautiful illustrations and information on the Shadowhunter culture and history, this was definitely one interesting read for Shadowhunter fans!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun to Read I read this after reading all the books in TID and TMI, as well as the Bane Chronicles, and it was so worth it. It didn't disappoint, and I especially liked the little notes that Jace, Simon, and Clary wrote all over the margins.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Needed But Still Great For those who want to understand the world of Shadowhunters even more, this is for you. Though it's not 100% needed to understand the books, it's simply an extra. It also includes little comments from the Mortal Instruments characters throughout the pages. #plumreview

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fun Read I enjoyed these shadowhunter history lessons and liked how this companion novel linked Cassandra's series together. The sections on fey I found most intriguing since they seem to be the most secretive species in the Shadowhunter world. Also its always fun the witness the sassy conversations between Jace, Simon and Clary.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A fun book The Shadowhunter's Codex isn't a must-read but it is an interesting little guide to the Shadowhunter world and its people. I would only buy this if you're a die-hard fan.
Date published: 2016-11-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Codex This book is truly more of a guide to assit you through the series, especially the beginning.
Date published: 2016-11-10
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Interesting, but enough to read the entire thing The book has some great drawings and commentary from the characters along various pages, but the Codex itself really isn't interesting enough to be taken as reading material. It's more of a textbook really. Unless you're a die-hard fan I really wouldn't spend the money.
Date published: 2016-11-09
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Not what I was expecting, textbook-like, but enjoyable to read if you are a fan of the series.
Date published: 2016-11-07
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun addition This is a neat add in for TMI addicts. It has written add ins from Clary, Jace and Simon.
