Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fast Paced Thriller The Sign by Raymond Khoury zips the reader from Antarctica to Egypt to the Southern US. A fast paced thriller, the premise is rather 'out there' but still provides an enjoyable read. Both protagonists, Gracie Logan, an up and coming journalist who finds herself at the centre of the so-called 'Sign' phenomena and Matt Sherwood, a highly capable bad-boy gone good, out to find out what really happened to his brother, are easy to like. While some of the action, especially that surrounding Matt, strains even my suspend reality this is a fictional story expectations, the overall outcome is a solid read. 2011-038

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Enjoyable Gracie is the newest and best reporter for CNN and she is Antartica reporting on the melting ice caps when a thing, a cloud, a sign appears off the ice shelf that is melting into the ocean. What does the sign mean for a world society that is already torn about spiritual beliefs. Around the world the sign is seen...is it real...is it the sign that will bring the world together? This is a good book and real fun ride as you figure out what is and is not happening. Compared to Khoury's other books, it is ok. I found that it was eary to follow and thought provoking, but not quite to the standard as his other books.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I opened up my eyes and saw The Sign. I haven't read any of Raymond Khoury's previous works but the premise of this title intrigued me enough to try it out. It involves the sudden appearance of a mysterious "sign" over a disintegrating Antarctica ice shelf and the subsequent fallout amongst the various religious communities. Specifically, it alternates back and forth between the stories of Gracie Logan, the reporter who was on the scene when the sign appeared, and Matt Sherwood, an ex-convict whose brother died mysteriously two years before and may somehow be involved. I enjoyed this title but felt there could have been more focus on the reactions of the general public. More often than not, it seems to summarize the reactions as: "Christians think it belongs to them, Muslims are angry." There were some tense moments and in the end, it all came together to what I felt was a satisfying conclusion. I could certainly recommend this title as a fun summer read but it's definitely not one of the best in the "religious thriller" genre.
