Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Tale of Fire and Ice The author takes us on an atmospheric journey starting from a point of euphoria to a mysterious destination consumed by cold anarchy. This ageless tale has maximum suspense that will keep young readers on the edge of their seats straight to the twisted end when Gerda and Kai come to realize that who the Snow Queen really seems to be does not match their dark impressions of who she actually is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Snow Queen Review “The Snow Queen” was originally published in 1844 by Hans Christian Anderson. It is a timeless story with a classic plot that will never go out of style. This retelling uses beautiful illustrations and modern language to capture the interest of today’s young readers. The first page in this book grabs your attention right away, because it pictures an ugly and scary looking troll flying high above the earth carrying a large mirror. The troll has created this mirror which will make everything good appear frightful and evil and everything evil will appear good and virtuous. The troll planned to take the mirror up to heaven to wreak havoc with the angels, but he accidently drops the mirror, it falls to the earth and it shatters into millions of sharp slivers of glass.  The main characters are Kai and Gerda, who are best friends. One day a sudden gust of wind blows some snow in the window and two slivers of the glass mirror strike Kai, one in his heart and one in his eye. Kai immediately begins to act cruelly and one day disappears. Everyone believes he is dead, but not his friend Gerda. She sets off to rescue Kai and despite the challenges that she must confront, she never gives up. Truly a story of how friendship and love can overcome evil.
