First published in 1990, The Temple of My Familiar, Alice Walker's follow-up to her iconic The Color Purple, spent more than four months on the New York Times Bestseller list and was hailed by critics as a "major achievement" ( Chicago Tribune ). &nbspDescribed by the author as "a romance of the last 500,000 years," the novel follows a&nbspcast of interrelated characters, most of African descent, and each representing a different ethnic strain-ranging from diverse African tribes to the mixed bloods of Latin America-that contribute to the black experience in America.&nbsp&nbsp
Best-selling novelist ALICE WALKER is also the author of three collections of short stories, three collections of essays, six volumes of poetry, and several children's books.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quirky and Beautiful Book Though I was hesitant to begin this book since I was afraid of disappoint after my amazement with the Color Purple, I was pleasantly surprised. Certain characters and plot streams are maintained from The Color Purple, but it is written in a drastically different style with a riveting plot that wouldn't let me put the book down!
