Gilbert Markham is deeply intrigued by Helen Graham, a beautiful and secretive young woman who has moved into nearby Wildfell Hall with her young son. He is quick to offer Helen his friendship, but when her reclusive behaviour becomes the subject oflocal gossip and speculation, Gilbert begins to wonder whether his trust in her has been misplaced.

It is only when she allows Gilbert to read her diary that the truth is revealed and the shocking details of the disastrous marriage she has left behind emerge...

Told with great immediacy, combined with wit and irony, THE TENANTOF WILDFELL HALL is a powerfully involving read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very pretty story! This book is very predictable and plays to many literary stereotypes but is still very enjoyable. I would recommend it to any Austen or Bronte fans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my all time favourite books! I have recommended this book to so many of my friends. Out of all of the work written by the Bronte sisters, this is definitely one of the best although not as popular as maybe Jane Eyre for example. This book was so ahead of its time in terms of the central message. I bought this beautiful edition for my personal library as I previously had a very beat up second hand version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from what a fabulous read It took me a little bit to get into this book but once I did I was totally captivated. Perhaps because I got off to such a slow start, the only thing that I was disappointed with is that the book started to lose some of its embellishment. Such a beautiful cover needs to stay pristine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Finally finished! I am ashamed that it has taken me this long and regretful as well, for I feel I would have enjoyed it more if I had not taken such long gaps between reading. Despite this, I did like the book. It was a bit too lengthy for my taste and I feel the power of the story would not have been diminished if the book was reduced by half. Happy I read it though. Charlotte is still my favourite Brontë.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Beautiful Edition of An Important Classic Anne Brontë's "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" is a fantastic novel about a woman trapped in a abusive relationship by the dictates of society. Though Charlotte's "Jane Eyre" and Emily's "Jane Eyre" may have more recognition, Anne proves with this novel that she does not simply deserve to be known simply as the youngest of the Brontë sisters but by the merit of her works. This is one of the great feminist novels which boast of themes that are still relevant today. #plumreview
