Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fell In Love With This Book The Thorn Birds is an amazing family saga dealing with love, morality, self conflict, and of course Australia. It is full of amazingly complex and detailed characters that can be both loved and hated by readers. I fell in love with the story telling, the characters and the journey of Meggie and Ralph. This tragic romance had my heart leaping and aching, although unrealistic at times it provided an interesting conflict regarding love. Can love ever be enough? Is the question facing Ralph and Meggie. My only criticism is that the story lagged towards the third generation, however, other then that I could hardly put the book down to sleep. This book has impacted me greatly and I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT! One of my favorite books of all time... McCullough graphic depiction of events had me there in the moment! This book was pure escapism for me and I was drunk on the fantasy of it! One of the few books in my life that I "saved" pages to read towards the end (no more than 1 page per night) ~ because I DIDN'T want it to end! Loved this book....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite story about forbidden love This is one of my favourite love stories because there are so many deep elements to this book that make it worthwhile. McCullough’s depiction of love, deceit, perseverance, and irony drew me in from beginning to end. There was an amazing list of characters in this novel and McCullough thoroughly tapped into the essence of each one without bogging the story down. She enshrouded a complexity around each character so as to truly give them their own life and make each one interesting and unique. Then there’s the love between Maggie and Ralph that was so bitter sweet it gripped me immediately. It was heart wrenching to watch them struggle through their forbidden love. The plot moved at a steady pace with several shocking, but suitable events laced throughout the story. By the end, I was amazed by the conclusion McCullough brought us too and how she took us there. With everything that happened and all the emotions the story aroused in me, I was thinking about if for days afterwards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book will shape you This fantastic saga is one of those reads that stays with you. Far from those novels that you put down and walk away from, The Thorn Birds leaves a lasting imprint on the reader. It makes you want to see the landscapes that so captivated the characters, and drew them home time and time again. This novel inspires thoughts about your own home, and leaves you wondering what's there that will draw you back, if anything at all. A book that refuses to be put down, The Thorn Birds is a must read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Sweeping Saga This book is one of the best books that I have ever read! It sucks you in from the very first. When I rented it from the library I thought that it would be a good long read but I had it done in like week because I couldn't put it down! This book takes you through the tragic and sorrowful life of girl named Meggie Cleary. She has known sorrow and misortune all her life and it seems that the tragities just keep getting worst as the years go on. It is a great story of forbidden love and Colleen McCullough wrote it so well that you can't help but cry.
