about

A dark epic fantasy inspired by The Prince and the Pauper and the fairy tale The False Prince, from bestselling author C. J. Redwine. Perfect for fans of the Court of Thorns and Roses series and the Wrath and the Dawn duology, The Traitor Prince is a thrilling new standalone novel in the Ravenspire series.

Javan Najafai, crown prince of Akram, has spent the last ten years at an elite boarding school, far away from his kingdom. But his eagerly awaited return home is cut short when a mysterious impostor takes his place—and no one believes Javan is the true prince.

After barely escaping the impostor’s assassins, Javan is thrown into Maqbara, the kingdom’s most dangerous prison. The only way to gain an audience with the king—and reveal Javan’s identity—is to fight in Maqbara’s yearly tournament. But winning is much harder than acing competitions at school, and soon Javan finds himself beset not just by the terrifying creatures in the arena but also by a band of prisoners allied against him, and even by the warden herself.

The only person who can help him is Sajda, who has been enslaved by Maqbara’s warden since she was a child, and whose guarded demeanor and powerful right hook keep the prisoners in check. Working with Sajda might be the only way Javan can escape alive—but she has dangerous secrets.

Together, Javan and Sajda have to outwit the vicious warden, outfight deadly creatures, and outlast the murderous prisoners intent on killing Javan. If they fail, they’ll be trapped in Maqbara for good—and the secret Sajda’s been hiding will bury them both.

C.J. Redwine loves fairy tales, Harry Potter, and any movie starring Johnny Depp. She is also the author of the Defiance trilogy, the New York Times bestseller The Shadow Queen, and The Wish Granter. If the novel-writing gig ever falls through, she’ll join the Avengers and wear a cape to work every day. C.J. lives in Nashville with her...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Exciting, Romantic Fairy Tale Gah, I love this series so much! It's been hard to pick a favourite book so far, seeing as I read THE WISH GRANTER last week and was completely entranced by it, but THE TRAITOR PRINCE just might have taken the top spot! The story was engaging and interesting right from the get-go, and it was a huge adventure from there. The characters were fantastic! Javan was the kind of person you constantly wanted to cheer for (and who can slay monsters like nobody's business). Sajda is a super tough girl with a lot of baggage but who was easily one of my favourite characters in the book. Even wicked Rahim was interesting and compelling in his own way. The action was stellar and had me constantly turning the pages to find out what would happen next. Of all the romances, this one is likely my favourite. There was fantastic chemistry and swoon-worthy passion between Javan and Sajda and I couldn't get enough. The entire story truly read like a fairy tale, and I'm thrilled to have this on my shelves. I honestly cannot wait for the next book, and hopefully more after that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE STORY!!! <3<3<3<3 "May you lose yourself in my stories, laugh, cry, swoon, and stay up way too late turning pages" --a quote by C.J. Redwine that perfectly describes my experiences reading all of her books, including the Traitor Prince (which randomly came a couple of days early, but I'm not complaining). xD When I first found out that Redwine would be writing a story based off of the two fairy tales, The Prince and the Pauper, and The False Prince, I immediately scoured the internet to figure out what the latter one was all about since I'd never heard of it before. Afterwards, I was really excited to see how her version would turn out, and let me tell you, Redwine absolutely did NOT disappoint: she interweaved the two stories together, adding her own personal touches to them, beautifully in the Traitor Prince~ TT^TT <3<3<3 It was absolutely fascinating seeing how she adapted elements of the two fairy tales in her own original tale, and the original Ravenspire content was equally as incredible to read. *O* <3<3 The Traitor Prince was an absolutely amazing story about hope, faith, and trust--in oneself, in others, and in greater powers. It was an inspiring tale about finding hope, and meaning in seemingly hopeless, and meaningless situations; about taking courage in, and letting fear out. But it was also a story full of excitement, humour, suspense, and its fair share of heartwarming, heartbreaking, and swoon-worthy moments. :D Javan, and Sajda, the main characters in the novel, were absolutely INCREDIBLE characters: they had so much depth to them, coming with their own sets of strengths, flaws, fears, hopes, and dreams. ^^ I laughed, cried, swooned, panicked, and cheered alongside them throughout their entire story, enjoying every single moment of it. <3 I loved seeing how they grew over the course of the novel, and ESPECIALLY loved seeing their interactions with each other--THEY'RE BOTH JUST SO DAMN PRECIOUS, AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS JUST SO BEAUTIFUL. TT^TT <3<3<3 The dancing, and the "Why did/will I come back?" confessions, ESPECIALLY AT THE END, made me grin ear to ear (like Javan, the precious darling), and cry at the same time, no lie. TT^TT <3<3<3 The Traitor Prince is a masterpiece like all of Redwine's other novels (which are referenced in this book, too!!!! Well, not the Defiance series, but the Shadow Queen, and The Wishgranter ^^;). I loved it to bits, and pieces, and do not regret missing a single moment of sleep because of it~~ :D<3<3 I absolutely cannot wait to see the next book she writes, whether it's in this series, or a completely new one. :D:D:D Would I recommend this book to someone? IN A HEARTBEAT!!!! Why? Because it is the stars. It is the galaxy. It is MAGIC. ^^
