about

Science fiction writer Lizzie Newell takes a feminist perspective in exploring technology, gender, politics, and eugenics in a utopian fishing society, which has developed on a planet that resembles Alaska.

On the planet Fenria, fierce tidal fluctuations, driven by two moons, lead to a high death rate for fishermen, and so Fenria women outnumber men. As a result of this imbalanced gender ratio, Fenrian society has developed as a matriarchy with female control of banking, government, and education. Not everyone accepts such a society as idyllic, and to those who do not, matriarchy can be dystopian.

To challenge the Fenrian matriarchy, orphaned social revolutionary Annon seeks to lead her own clan, and she’ll do nearly anything to get it, including making a deal with the Queen of Fenria. In exchange for recognition of Clan Noahee, Annon agrees to anonymous sex with a man who will father her child. However, the man refuses to impregnate Annon, insisting she must love him first. In clandestine meetings, he goes about seducing her, pleasuring her, and winning her affection. All the while, political factions attempt to drive the couple apart. Annon must trust her man, protect her child, and find her own way amidst the deadly intrigue that wracks the Fenrian royal family.  In doing so, she will forge a new society which treats men and women as equals.
