2. He's attacked by sword-wielding assailants, yet insists he can handle it on his own.

3. He never seems to age.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delightful!!! This series just seems to get better and better. Jean-Luc is a fashion designer and now has to leave Paris and go into hiding because the media a suspiscious of him.....why is he not aging? So he opens a shop in Texas near a small town and once it closes he will be in exile for 25 years. Heather is a school teacher with a young daughter and is trying to recover from her failed marriage. When she is offered her dream job as a designer at the new clothing shop, she is thrilled, but also a bit suspicious. When an old enemy of Jean-Luc's attacks, Heather also becomes his target and Jean-Luc insists on providing protection and maybe more! Heather is determined to find out Jean-Luc's sercrets because she feels the desire between them but if he can't trust her with his secrets she doesn't know if there can be anything between them. This is a great story, you'll enjoy if as much as the others in this series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Meh? This was the first book in the series that I read and I wasn't too fussy about it. I didn't like Heather's character. She just felt like used goods to me. Always doing what her mother wants, encluding marrying a man she doesn't really want. Wasn't fussy on the hero, Jean Luc either. Maybe it was because he was french. I was already reading another vamp series at the time and the main vamp in that was french too and would have kicked that guys butt! While I didn't love the characters in this one(at the time) the story was good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Jean-Luc Finally Gets His Story This is the 4th book in the Love at Stake series - where most vampires drink synthetic blood and don't hurt humans in any way, even though vampires are still in hiding. Unfortunately, the Malcontents are still feeding on humans and it looks like a Vampire War is gearing up - to the detriment of humans everywhere. In this series, we met a whole host of vampires in the first book, and one by one they are getting their (lurve) story told. This time is it Jean-Luc's turn. He is the Coven master of Western Europe and a fashion designer to the stars. Unfortunately, the press has noticed he doesn't seem to be aging, so he is going to hide out in Texas for 25 years until he can pretend to be his own son. At the opening for his new store he meets Heather - size 12 and proud of it. Jean-Luc is very happy to see a woman who isn't all points and angles like his models. But then a terrifying vampire from Jean-Luc's past shows up and Heather is put into danger. Jean-Luc remembers why he can never love again. Will the vampire threat once again keep him from love? These are great books with just the right amount of humour, action, continuing plot (regarding the vampire war and other characters that we have already met) and romance/sex - hot but not too much. I just found out that the next in the series comes out in October and will star Ian!! Squee!! I can't wait!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An Amazing Read And A Good Laugh The Undead Next Door is a really nice yet sexy paranormal read , Kerrelyn Sparks has lots of laughs, and romance, and I loved her choice of characters. The book was a bit slow in the middle but was still a grade A read as far as I’m concerned.
