An essential volume alongside Coelho’s other bestselling and influential books, such as The Alchemist, The Pilgrimage, Brida, and The Winner Stands Alone, the searing and unforgettable narrative in The Valkyries asks the questions most central to all literature—and all of humanity’s quest for understanding. Why is it that we destroy the things we love most? And how can we learn to let go of the past and believe in the future?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good read But not the best of Coelho novels. He should stay away from repeating "he wants to see his angels".

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Truth is definitely stranger than fiction! While I found this to be a page-turner right from the start, I probably would have stopped reading this book if it wasn't for the fact that Paulo Coelho claims it to be non-fiction (except in 2 particular instances, neither of which are revealed or even hinted at to the reader). The Valkyries is an account of the journey taken by Coelho and his wife through the Mojave dessert in search of his guardian angel. Truth is definitely stranger than fiction, and certain bits of this book were so odd that it was the supposed truth behind them that kept me fascinated! The book is strewn with spiritually uplifting concepts, and Coelho's writing is beautiful in its simplicity, as usual! He pulls off a wonderful, inspiring and uplifting adventure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Journey's Perspective A fascinating book that is both mysterious and compelling. It draws you in and convinces you not to put it down. Perhaps it's your own guardian angel gently suggesting that you read on and begin your own journey for you both to become re-acquainted? Nonetheless, truly inspiring and full of many messages. They are there... if you are looking for them. After you read it, pass it on.
