about

Behind every secret lurks one much darker...

Thrust back into the cryptic world of Cania Christy, Anne Merchant finds herself tangled in a mystic plot she can't escape. Eerie visions haunt her. Whispers of her nefarious past vex her. But it's not until Ben Zin is forced to compete for the Big V—with a vengeful guardian to assure his failure—that she faces the reality of life in a world ruled by wickedness: she must embrace her inner demons to help those she loves. Hoping the ends will justify the means, Anne starts down a slippery slope that, if she lets temptation guide her, could lead her straight to the underworld.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it way more than the sequel We're back on Wormwood Island, and after what went down in The Unseemly Education of Anne Merchant, we get even more answers to the world and its inhabitants. Anne is busy trying to get her beloved boyfriend back into the race, The Big V so he can have a chance at a second life. With the old headmaster gone, and new one comes in, will she be able to achieve her goal? Like the first book, I was still annoyed at Anne..Just a tiny bit though. She's still very boy crazy, and still pretty selfish. But I ignored it and I was glad that I did because the story is what really shines in this sequel. We FINALLY get answers as to why Anne is the way she is, and why her PT is to use her womanly ways to get what she wants. I called it very early in the beginning, and I got it right! That part wasn't the only surprise, so I'm happy that this book had more than one. Ben is also there, but he took a back seat to what was really happening. And that was all the challenges that the new headmaster Dia was issuing. He was one character that I started to like even though he is so infuriating at times. Molly is adorable and such a good person who is trying to do good in a world of demons. I hated the way Anne treated her so much. She's your best friend, and will always stay loyal to you, so at least be interested in her life too! The Seven Sinning sisters are also introduced, and all the mythology and the little puzzles that Anne goes through were the most interesting parts to read. Sure, there were creepy, and violent torturous scenes that I had to skim over but overall, I was so invested in finding out who wins the Big V, that everything else just feel on the side and I focused on the bigger picture. So many twists and turns at the end, I was actually confused. I think I'm still confused, but overall I enjoyed The Wicked Awakening of Anne Merchant so much more than the first one, and couldn't stop reading until the end.
