He confessed to his friend that he had never seen anyone he admired so much; he went further, and declared he loved her, that if only he had money enough to keep a wife, he would propose to her at once. Yonge listened patiently to his friend's raptures; now and then a sigh escaped him involuntarily, but he disguised it by a cough and it passed unnoticed. "It is not her beauty alone that attracts one," said Farquhar, " but she is so kind and pleasant to everyone. Did you see her talking to that wretched-looking Curate, just because she saw other people neglected him? And that young duffer Catesby too, always hanging about her, and yet she never seemed bored by his attentions, though she must have wished him away lots of times."
