about

THE WITCHES by Roald Dahl is the story of a detestable breed of Witches. BEWARE. Real witches dress in ordinary clothes and look like ordinary women. But they are not ordinary. They are always plotting and scheming with murderous, bloodthirsty thoughts - and they hate children. The Grand High Witch hates children most of all and plans to make every single one of YOU disappear. Only one boy and his grandmother can stop her, but if their plan fails the Grand High Witch will frizzle them like fritters, and then what . . . ? Now you can listen to THE WITCHES and other Roald Dahl audiobooks read by some very famous voices, including Kate Winslet, David Walliams and Steven Fry - plus there are added squelchy soundeffects from Pinewood Studios! And look out for new Roald Dahl apps in the App store and Google Play- including the disgusting TWIT OR MISS! and HOUSE OF TWITS inspired by the revolting Twits.
Quentin Blake has illustrated more than three hundred books and was Roald Dahl's favourite illustrator. In 1980 he won the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal. In 1999 he became the first ever Children's Laureate and in 2013 he was knighted for services to illustration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Story For Readers Of All Ages For whatever reason, I have never read this book until now. I wish I had read this as a younger reader; I would have loved this book as a child and undoubtedly treasure it. Still, even as a grown woman I can appreciate it. Dahl's writing is ageless; his flair for the dramatics and his passionate voice combine into a truly wonderful tale that will keep you laughing, guessing, and constantly turning pages to see what could possibly happen next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! As a child, my mom told me that I wasn't allowed to read this one, but I couldn't get enough of Roald Dahl so I secretly borrowed it from the library and read it under my bed. Worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably My Favourite Book of All Time I cannot begin to tell you HOW GOOD this book is! It is extremely scary yet it keeps you gripped and tight on the edge of your seats waiting to see what will happen to the main character and the witches! I remember reading this when I was younger, and I was terrified, yet so intrigued and interested into what might happen in the story! The concept of these witches, I thought was so BRILLIANT, it blew my mind away and I still love this story to this very day! I 100% recommend this book to any child! As a child, I was hooked onto this book so much! I could not keep my eyes off these pages during reading time in class! This book was so creative, and thoughtful and so all well put together by the amazing author Roald Dahl! So amazing!! I remember being absorbed in this book and I was absolutely hooked! I couldn't wait to find out what happened to the main character and what would happen at the end of the book. The story, plot, and events that happen in this book will BLOW your MIND away!! The concepts, and abstract ideas are at such a high level of thinking, you wonder how Roald Dahl came up with this! It is soo interesting, and fun to read! Since, it is called the Witches, it is also a little scary, but you'll get through it!
