Editorial Reviews

Dave is the most compassionate, caring physician I have known.  This is what drew me towards Dave when we met back in Family Medicine residency over 30 years ago.  Whether he is working in rural Maine or overseas, helping to serve the poor, Dave does not know from any divide. He sees your uniqueness as a human being and reaches out to make a profound human connection. To receive one of Dave's emails from overseas means you are going to be taken on an extraordinary adventure into the lives of the native people and their culture.  No judgment-just pure acceptance as a friend, with a genuine interest in who you are, where you are from, wanting to meet your family. And when you see him in the clinic, he takes the same regard for you, and he will go to any lengths to see you through your illness or that of your child.  Such a gift that Dave has shared with us-his writing is beautiful and engaging-the world will feel much smaller as Dave helps us touch our universal humanity.- Alan Weiner, MD
