They came by sea. The salt water kept them alive, waiting for the time to grow into our world.

The sky breaks with reds and oranges against the salty sea. Three children play by the shore where waves rush up to their small, fragile feet. Their mother waits, sitting on a rock while they finish their play.
‘Let’s hurry up now. We don’t want to be late for dinner,’ she says. Peach colored rounded sponges, no bigger than a child’s toe, roll up with the waves over the children’s feet. Some cling in between toes and rest there. These sponges have traveled on the ocean floor, diligently pushing themselves along the bottoms of the ocean to arrive at these sandy seashores. They make their home inbetween the children’s toes and wait to seep into the skin.
Sometime after dinner, the children have gone to sleep. Their mother and father, Martha and Joshua, wash dishes.
