Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rest in Awesome, Esther I'll be honest, this book made me cry. Esther was an amazing girl, and reading this book makes me wish I had gotten the chance to know her. Every part of this book is extremely thoughtful. I was in tears just reading John's Introduction. I wouldn't recommend this book for people who are just looking to see where inspiration for TFIOS came from, because this book won't provide them with that. However for nerdfighters who want to know more about the amazing person that Esther was, I highly recommend it. DFTBA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I couldn't recommend more It is an emotional roller coaster. As someone with Chronic Pain, I can relate. Her happiness and outlook on life still shines through. She is someone who used her to short life to the full and made everyone's a bit better. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Esther, Where Can I Begin?  "Love is stronger than death." Esther, Esther, Esther, where do I begin. Thank you so much for being my role model. You've touched many people's hearts because of this amazing novel. I was glued to it from the first page and I didn't let it go. Many tears shed into my eyes throughout the story and they didn't leave. I'm now depressed because of how much suffering you had to go through, you didn't deserve that but you still went on with a smile on your face.         Many people will bring on your story and legacy throughout the years and this story will touch many people's hearts forever and always, for infinity. Many people miss you, and I'm 100% sure that you are showing that you're watching them, including to us readers through this amazing story of yours.           Beautiful and touching, will stay in my heart forever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My mystical foresight tells me that this will be a great book when it comes out. "Esther Earl was an amazing human being. Not only was she a highly charismatic individual, but she was also a deeply empathetic and loving person. Although she is no longer with us, her spirit, and awesomeness, still carries on through various charitable organizations/projects and, of course, this amazing book. Whoever reads this book will be doing themselves, and Esther, a huge service. It will change your life and, likely, make you a better person."

Editorial Reviews

Reviews for This Star Won't Go Out:"Just so you can’t say we didn’t warn you, This Star Won’t Go Out will make you sob (unless you don’t have a soul). But it will also make you smile, as one of those rare books that will change the way you look at the world. The true story of Esther, a teen with cancer, this book is a compilation of her essays, short fiction, journal entries and family photos. You might not expect a 16-year-old with a terminal illness to be funny, but Esther is cleverly so while eschewing bitterness.Author John Green got to know Esther after meeting her at a Harry Potter convention, and they formed a meaningful friendship. So meaningful, in fact, that he dedicated The Fault in Our Stars to her and wrote the foreword to this book. Just released, This Star Won’t Go Out is one book that will stick with you long after you finish it."—Metro New York
